What Ever Happened to Confederate President Jefferson Davis?

Who was Miranda of the Miranda Warning?

In this video:

For those not familiar, today the phrase “run amok” (also spelled “amuck”) is often used to describe such things as children making a mess while they run around and play or the like. Classically, though, it more resembled the modern phrase “going postal” or someone who just snaps for various reasons and goes on a murderous rampage, very similar to what is depicted in the Michael Douglas’ film, Falling Down.

Filipino also uses the word 'amok' for those who goes on a rampage. After all Filipino which is mainly from Tagalog is also closely related to same Malay language family

The word "Amuk" (the origin of Amok) is still actively used in the Malay language in Malaysia when regarding murderous rampage (like school shootings) or even the classic berserker state.

Amok is when you anger after deep deep inside. The anger you keep inside exploded. Then you cant think anymore and dont care anymore.

The Malay definition really fits the theme of the Star Trek (original series) called "Amok Time".

I don't know the origin of the word, but In Malay Amok is "Mengamuk", which means basically going crazy. The word Mengamuk can apply to a lot of situation depending on the context of the phrase. But usually its applies to the person who kinda like had enough and start lashing to the people around him.

Your bonus should have been where the term 'scot free' came from though I must admit I am now thinking of bubble wrapping the ceiling.

There was a Polish dude who wrote a book called Amok that was all about the experience of torturing and committing murder, and it was used as evidence in his murder trial, which he was convicted of.

The Malay word is mengamuk. Going postal is the most apt translation for it. Story goes that... people who mengamuk were invincible; filled with so much rage, not even the blade could stop them. They're also filled with so much bloodlust that everyone around them gets whacked.

There was a man in Philadephia who ran amok and took the lives of many people. Mr. Whistler just happened to be in town and witnessed some of the carnage. Mr. Whistler knew he had to put a stop it. Mr. Simon Whistler confronted this maniac and began to dismantle this individual. The man is now permanently disabled and to this day is a patient in the hospital.

Actually, bubblewrap is still used as greenhouse insulation and is sold as such by agricultural suppliers with the plastic clips to hold it into the greenhouse frame.

I'm from Java, and in Javanese "amuk", or the verb "ngamuk" and In Indonesian "mengamuk" means to be in a state of rage and frenzy.

You guys should create a separate play list for 'sayings' or vernacular history, these are my favorite vid's you do, and theres an infinite amount of these we use every day that have fascinating history.

Bonus for you: the bubble-wrap with the large bubbles makes a good window insulator for the winter. You stick it to bubble-side to the glass with a water/glycerin solution.

actually the malay/indonesian way of saying it is "uh"-"mook"
and the phrase is still widely used today meaning to have a burst of emotion displayed in physical activities.

So, my assumption in Indonesian, which has Malay origin, is "amuk" which roughly means very angry or livid that could go to the extent of it being expressed physically to the point of destruction
