European Democracy Forum with Dalibor Rohac and Vivien Schmidt

On Thursday, March 31, 2022, in collaboration with the American Enterprise Institute (AEI)'s Executive Council undergraduate program, the Center for the Study of Europe hosted a virtual conversation on the future of liberal democracies and international institutions with Dalibor Rohac, Senior Fellow at the AEI, and Vivien Schmidt, Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration and Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University. In the context of their remarks, Dalibor and Schmidt analyzes the war war in Ukraine and how it will affect the global liberal democratic order going forward.

The event was spearheaded by Zak Schneider, Chairman and Founder of BU's AEI Executive Council chapter, who took on the role of moderator. Schneider is a 4th-year student at Boston University studying Political Science and International Relations. 

Dalibor Rohac studies European political and economic trends, specifically Central and Eastern Europe, the European Union (EU) and the eurozone, US-EU relations, and the post-Communist transitions and backsliding of countries in the former Soviet bloc. He is the author of “In Defense of Globalism” (Rowman and Littlefield, 2019). His previous book, “Towards an Imperfect Union: A Conservative Case for the EU” (Rowman and Littlefield, 2016), was included on Foreign Affairs magazine’s list of best books of 2016.
