I think gameplay-wise I would agree on the similarities but the issue overall with Bailu is its discrepancies to what Shenhua told us about it in Shenmue 2...

I am replaying these days Shenmue 3 and I realizsd that i never used the backer code. I used it today and got the phone card for international calls. Just waiting tomorrow to start calling all my Friend ❤

Shenmue 3 is amazing I like Shenmue 3 but Shenmue makes me feel at home because Ryo is well known in Japan

Shenmue 3 is to early to judge we need to allow yu Suzuki to finish of shenmue series if it takes 2/3 games then let’s go back and play them all and then judge where shenmue 3 stands because by the end of it all shenmue 3 haters won’t care so much

The takeaway is that Shenmue 3 is an extraordinarily faithful shenmue game. It's true to the franchise. Authentically shenmue.

I honestly found it very similar to Shenmue 1 and I enjoyed the slow pace of 3. Was it the right decision to do this considering we may never get another shot. Probably not. But! I honestly feel enjoy Shenmue 3 and thought it was a great game all things considered

I think they tried to take the best aspects of 1 and 2 and make a hybrid game; one that feels homely in Bailu and adventurous in Niaowu. Some aspects of 3 are the best in the series.
