I bought an MSI gaming laptop with a single 8GB stick. There was a very good boost to benchmarks for CPU, GPU and RAM scores when i upgraded to 16GB dual channel. You have to watch out because they dont make it clear that they have MAX-Q graphics cards either, if a gaming laptop in "thin" then its because they are using a lower power max-q gpu that makes less heat

Thank you for the video, you quantified what I already suspected! I recently bought a Legion 5 gaming laptop and it came with a Ryzen 5 4600H with GTX 1050ti and 8GB of RAM in single channel mode. I knew right away this was a problem so I cracked it open and installed a matching kit of 16GB Crucial Ballistix at 3200. The difference was immediately noticeable. Anyone who has one of these modern gaming laptops with a single stick of RAM NEEDS to upgrade as soon as possible. You really are leaving a great deal of performance on the table.

I’ve been struggling with opening simple apps and merely keeping a framerate higher than 30 on my acer nitro 5 for the past year. It has an RX 560 which is comparable to a 1050. I’ll update this comment when I upgrade to dual channel about any increases in performance

Update: I got the ram yesterday and installed it. The difference is INSANE. I'm able to keep more than two apps and games open and I've noticed a 28% boost in FPS in fortnite. (70 fps average on single channel, 90 fps average on dual. 120 fps average in creative with single channel, and 160 fps in dual).
Definitely recommend this.

I have a 12700 and I have a great speed of 3600 MHz with 1 stick, and I get less fps drops with that in A2 compared to when I use 2 sticks of 3200. I get fewer stutters, so it's not just using 2 separate sticks where it always gives less stutters and drops; it depends on game optimisation. Also, in games where I don't see hardly any difference at all in stutters or drops using either sticks, I also noticed if capping to 100-60 a person can use 1 stick and hardly any stutters or drops will happen; their reduced a lot, so yeah, 1 stick is enough; it just depends on game optimisation or how the CPU handles it.
