The Photographers Playbook is great for inspiration and overcoming creative blocks

Michael Kenna’s Holga is a must for everyone. Reminds us every time that gear doesn’t matter. Also I find it very inspiring. A book by Elliot Erwitt is also good to have.

I have the older version of the 35mm handbook. Recently I picked up Proof from Amazon. It's all about contact sheets. I believe it's a relatively new book. I loved the book Magnum Contact Sheets so buying this was a no brainer.

Great video. Love books. I love old books from the film days that go into the how and why they got the photo, I have learned heaps from them as they talk about the emulsions they used particularly when it’s an emulsion still available. So many nuances about what and why they used a particular film emulsion for the conditions. Love it.

The Art of Black and White Enlarging by David Vestal
Neither a beginners book, nor so advanced it would only be valuable to a pro. Very well written, clear, easy to understand. As the title indicates, it’s mostly about darkroom technique.

Vestal also wrote The Craft of Photography.

Glad I'm not the only one who buys a second copy by accident.. Magnum Contact Sheets is a good book!

A book you may enjoy is "Way Beyond Monochrome" by Ralph Lambert. Is quite the textbook, and can be a bit pricey, but has a lot of great info for someone who prints in the darkroom.

I have Gene's book and it is a really good book! His system parallels Ansels's system but in the printing world :-)

I have very FEW left now -- my several Wives have made me either Dump them or take them to Brentwood & District Photographic Club for the Raffle ! I have KEPT some 'Photography Year Books' in which i have some photos and some 'BJ Almanacs' for the Formulae . PS -- I have met several of those snappers such as David Bailey, Tom Hustler ( Photographed his Wife on Ferrania Colour slide film ! ! )

Hi Rodger. I followed your recommendation and bought a copy of "Begin With Bailey". No regrets. Best book so far. Thank you.

I have got a few books from Michael Freeman and I've got "The view camera" book. This last one it's a good help for people who have a view camera (I've got an MPP)

Some of the books I like that you didn't mention are, 'Pinhole Photography' by Eric Renner and, Experimental Photography A Handbook Of Techniques' published by Thames and Hudson. Both books are excellent for showing the more eccentric side of film photography.

On a different note, your mic is clipping a little bit, but otherwise good video as usual.

" Elements " by Barry Thornton and his follow up book " Edge of Darkness" I would recommend both of these books for developing and printing out of my very large photographic library. Bailey leaves me cold.

Philip Jones Griffith was a Welsh photo journalist, and I highly recommend you check him out. Also, have you done any photo retouching for fixing the specs of dust and scratches? That's be an awesome video!

You seem to have quite a bit of talent in both taking and developing and printing of photographs. If I were you I'd buy the three books of the late Ansel Adams called, The Camera, The Negative and The Print . The technical information entailed is as relevant today as it was back in the early 80s and the photos, although small are really inspirational and not gimmicky. The narrative is also quite nice and makes for good reading. I think Amazon has the three for about £50.00. There is also a fourth book in the series called Polaroid Land Photography which is quite rare. Dr Edwin Land was a friend of Adams and Adams had a hand in the development and the direction that Polaroid professional film stock took. I find the collection of Polaroid photographs, particularly those of the SX70 simply beautiful. Shame that the new Polaroid company can not duplicate the formulas.

Too many good books to recommend.
From the same period as Michael Freeman (who's still going) I find anything by Michael Busselle and John Hedgecoe very readable.
Any books by Focal Press publishers are also worth keeping an eye out for.

Philip Jones Griffiths was a Magnum photographer, very influential in exposing American mistakes and the horrors of the Vietnam War and the sufferings of the Vietnamese people. His book is called Vietnam Inc.

Nice photo books.

Cause of *the internet* and Instagram/ Twitter/ Facebook - *the amount of pictures* taken/ shared/ *uploaded everyday*

In 2024 - *In one average Day* - *the amount of photographs* shared online - is what the equivalent of the first 100 years of traditional photography produced!

Happy Christmas everyone:)
