Learn more about Lumion here:

I've never talked about Lumion before here on the channel, so in today's video let's talk about it! What do I think about Lumion? Is it worth using it as part of your workflow? And what are the new features in Lumion 11?

Lumion has improved a lot since I first got to know it. I always thought Lumion renders had that game-like look that I wasn't very fond of. But with these newer versions, I've started to look at this render engine with different eyes and Lumion is pretty fantastic now.

Let's talk over the comments section!

Hey guys, I've found out that you can actually render vertical images, but the aspect ratio is maintained at 16:9. The solution is that you can rotate the viewport itself. By far not the ideal workflow if you're portraying your project vertically. But I guess it kinda works out. Anyway, I just thought I had to share this here. What do you think about Lumion to create architecture images?

A tutorial on good post production steps for a lumion render would be great. I agree, I hate seeing projects where the software that made it dictates the aesthetics.

Yes more Lumion videos on your channel please. I do get what you are saying about the “Lumion” look. I usually go into PS and apply a camera raw filter on a smart layer.

I think Lumion is great. I use it everyday for what we do (commercial interior design). But I think it's great for reasons most others don't ever mention (positive or negative). It's not about how realistic the render always comes out. Things we redline come down to the accuracy of color, accuracy of light, accuracy of materials. I guess you could say our workflow is more literal instead of "conceptual" or "artsy". Our renderings are basically like construction documents. Some things very strong about Lumion is that the render output doesn't change colors as compared to some others I've used in the past.. such as RenderPlus, Podium, VRay. Sometimes for interiors there can be an odd green or blue tint to materials(not coming from the environment). Also Lumion is very good at "fixing" minor errors in textures or Photoshop'd backgrounds or materials. It's hard to explain but sometimes I have seamlines in my images or textures I've imported in Sketchup but Lumion somehow blends it very nicely you can barely notice. The newer versions are very good to taking low res images and creating a normal map to give the dull image some texture and life. I also like that Lumion can "find" the axis of your model. Another thing hard to explain but an example would be while rotating a chair Lumion will somehow find snapping points of the models "red and green" axis. I love that Lumion allows you to import edges so we can import our AutoCAD "grout" lines for flooring and elevations. Interesting no one ever mentions that.. I use Lumion for that feature all the time.

Hello everybody! I was also avoiding using "realistic" software like Lumion, but recently I tried TwinMotion along with Quixel Megascans (both free) and I want to say that I was amazed. Quixel Megascans is a platform full of high quality materials and 3D assets that can make your renders incredibly realistic. They can be imported directly into TwinMotion. Feels like I`m in a video game. It also takes alot of time to detail such models than our usual V-ray/Illustrator routine, but I find that TwinMotion and Quixel Megascans are a very nice way to create those realistic renders that people want.

For me personally as a architecture student who have used lumion 9 and 10 i would like to see your post-photoshop work after a render from lumion as a tutorial/guide for a video.

That marks on our works ! You don't need to deliver renders or realistic render to other but make them feel how it would be and what its like to be there ! There he is Oliver - The true is behind the idea of the project not rendering !

Just installed lumion 11. And I totally agree with you. Lumion needs to introduce others apart from the regular 16:9 layout

Lumion is great when u use it right. It's easy to get an ok image quickly and difficult to get a amazing image

We use Lumion as our main rendering software in our office. It's fast and rendering time is very generally quick. Lot of architectural offices don't have time to spend days on rendering.

Great video man! I’m a personal user of Lumion 10 at the moment, and so far I think I’ve come to beat that Lumion look you talked about, but it is a really hard thing to achieve, it took me a couple years and lots of learning, but it can really be a powerful software if it is used consciously and with a good post production process.

Agreed!! We need the tool to make renders with the ig proportions and others! Nowadays we all have architecture accounts and are constantly uploading stories. Thank you again Oliver!!☺️
