It's NOT spoken about at all! Also, we need to stop training our children to call everyone 'Auntie' and 'Uncles' and stop leaving our kids alone in the hands of so called friends and family members

It's not spoken about it enough because it's not even really acknowledged....a lot of parents sweep it under the carpet. Unfortunately we can't do something about this unless it starts being acknowledged....we can't really have progressive conversations until it is acknowledged. I know so many people that have cut off parents because they refused to believe they were the victims of SA by their own family members....it's just so sad and heartbreaking.

And another thing, African and Caribbean parents need to listen to their children more and not stifle them...not everything is respect. Some kids are crying out for help but because of this thing in our society where adults have to be held in high esteem- no matter what fuckery they do- kids and young people are suffering.

You guys are always talking about those things that aren't really addressed 🌹

My mum never forced me to kiss / hug anyone I didn’t want to as a child. People used to tell her I was rude for refusing but she always defended me. A lot of black adults forget that children are humans that deserve to feel comfortable in their personal space.

Intense conversation. There are so many layers to this. Wish you could go deeper to understand how to solve issues around this and beyond. But overall, very well structured. Well done

For SOME older carribean/african men, its normal, they think nothing of hollering at a girl who just came of age...watchin her growin up, waitin on her to come of age...they think its normal to be like 40+, 50+ chasin like teens and showering them with money and attention and SOME girls fall for it unfortunately.

Well done to the brother for asking what sexualisation looks like. There should have been more time spent on this because not everyone sees issues untill they're educated

It's not about whether it's talked about enough. It's more of what are people doing to prevent this problem. It's definitely a societal issue. So the right education from early which they can use as a foundation can prevent and solve these problems...very true or definitely true?

Do you want to "convict rapists" or just "convict men accused of rape"?

If a woman reports an assault 20yrs later (as Cherry did to her mother), how is "the system" to blame when there's no conviction?
If a woman reports a rape immediately, then later changes her mind as she would rather move on than have to recall it countless times for lawyers etc for months until the case is settled, whose fault is it her rapist isn't incarcerated?

What can a rape kit prove beyond "rough sex occured"?
People have rough, clumsy, no lube sex all the time - science can't prove consent

4 women, 1 man.
Discussion of "abused males" but only by other men.

Wife = sexual.
Mother =/= sexual??

Boo husbands, praise ever more government intervention (aka married to every man)??

it's not common amongst British Africans. Back home Africa it's more prevalent because in the villages and towns everyone is in and out of everyone else's houses because they still go by the good old it takes a village to raise a child mentality but amongst British Africans it's not common. Also considering we come from two different continents wouldn't it be better to talk about African and Caribbean issues as separate instead of linking the two together?
