Catholic Priest Burned Alive in Nigeria Last Year • Isaac Achi

Father Isaac Achi was a Catholic priest who was burned to death in Nigeria in January 2023. Unfortunately, his death is just one example of the persecution suffered by Christians and Catholics in Nigeria today.

“Father Isaac Azekpili Achi was brutally murdered on January 15 [2023] when his home in Kafin Koro was attacked by unidentified armed men. After forcing their way into the residence, the criminals shot Father Isaac and wounded his colleague, Father Collins, before setting the house on fire. It is unknown if Father Isaac died from the gunshots or from the flames.”

“His murder left his community, and indeed the whole diocese, in shock. Aid to the Church in Need received the text of the sermon delivered by Father Samuel P. Gwimi, during the funeral service in Minna Cathedral, which was attended by crowds of faithful.” -Aid to the Church in Need
