This was originally in Dragon Quest III, in some of the more dramatic, plot-twisting portions of that game. I remember getting goosebumps hearing the 8 bit version, and now hearing the orchestral remastered version is an absolute masterpiece. Even more goosebumps given the context of when this played in DQ11

My grandma passed away earlier today as I write this and I immediately put this on. I bawled my eyes out... She meant so much to me and I didn't even get to say goodbye to her. I feel just like Serena. I'm still trying to accept the fact that she's gone. 👼😔😭

In Dragon Quest XI, this track is first used when you read the Queen of Dundrasil’s final letter and Chalky’s letter for the first time in the playthrough.

Eleven’s mother Queen Eleanor of Dundrasil wrote her final letter when she knew the end was nigh. Mordegon’s monster army razed Dundrasil to the ground as he was trying to get rid of Eleven the Luminary. Long ago, Mordegon betrayed and murdered Erdwin before the victim could deal the final blow to Calasmos, the Dark One.

Chalky’s letter is the result of Eleven’s vision of the past in Cobblestone. Yggdrasil thought that Eleven would be safer with Chalky and Amber in Cobblestone than he would with Jade.

Honestly this theme always puts in the mood drop a tear.
Despite the fact it never really happen because of the lame time travel.
This ost always reminds me of that scene and how well it was really done and gave an impact.
Like no one was expecting it.
