Our American Native Heritage is something all Americans 🇺🇸should be proud to honor. Suicide Races, Whale Hunts, Sweat Lodges, Honoring Elders, Deep Spirituality, Courage, Resourcefulness, Arts and Crafts, ?Survival, and a deep sense of Pride; the list of good things is very long. All Americans can learn from Native Elders and others to keep and defend our good traditions.

They aren't riding, they are smacking the shit out of their horse. It's disgusting and i feel very sorry for those beautiful creatures

This is one way that should NOT be passed on. It's cruelty to animals. I always respected the native American way of thinking about animals. They always seemed to have more respect for animals and their spirits than other people. Maybe I was wrong.

what happened to the tradition of native americans showing respect to animals? This is just another example of just because you can, doesn't mean you should. You guys will never see the abuse because competitions blind the horse owner/rider to the abuse they put their horses through. If this was people dying, it would have been outlawed decades ago!

"In the previous 25 years, for example, at least 23 horses have died, including three in 2004 and one in 2012."

Unnecessary. I just feel bad for the horses, they haven't done anything wrong in their lives.

just because it’s traditional and culture doesn’t mean it’s not abusive and cruel, you can clearly see how much these horses are in discomfort and it can not only be extremely dangerous to you and you’re horse but also for the people around you.

Seriously? Who cares about tradition that happened years ago? I bet your ancestors would probably not like what your doing right now. Like I don’t care! You need to wake up and see what your doing to your horses is beyond wrong!!

I understand honouring tradition, but putting hundreds of animals and people in danger, mostly animals. It’s just straight up stupid

Just because it’s a “passes down generation” sport does not mean that it okay. This is so dangerous for the horses it’s not cool and not funny

This video is 6 years old, but still looks awesome. What a great race. Please, do not let the traditions and teachings of Native Americans die. Keep teaching them to your children. God Bless y'all.

I love the racing it's amazing great music amazing culture, but I'm not sure all that the wipping will actually make the horses faster.

Competed there in 94 and 95. Still remember the Natives singing. Beautiful. What a wonderful time.
