You don’t need to turn the unit off, the GSs Canbus system keeps power enabled for a time, 30 seconds I think, then the unit goes through the shut down procedure.

Good video, thanks. However, I would suggest that you also use the four black collars/spacers to insert in the four Zumo mount screw holes, so they act a secondary spacers between the mount and the 3D cradle. That's per the Garmin instructions. The 3D screw holes are long enough for this.

Hi Jason. My riding buddy with a F850GS told me about your video. Very helpful! I just purchased a 2023 BMW F750GS and a new Garmin Zumo XT. I received the adaptor from Italy in four days (ordered Sunday, received Wednesday). Had some issues of my own making, but basically followed your video. Except for one thing. I followed my friend's advice about ordering the locking mechanism with the adaptor. I believe you do have to use the supplied locking mechanism and swap out the existing locking mechanism in the BMW unit. The reason is that the supplied locking mechanism has two arms. One to lock the BMW connector, and one to lock the Garmin connector to the BMW unit. If not, I think someone could reach behind and unclip the Garmin while leaving the BMW unit locked. Maybe yours worked differently, but I had to install the supplied locking mechanism. Thank you for the video!

I managed to fit my XT into the original mount by slightly elongating the four mounting holes so that the new XT spring pinned power mounting fitted where the old Nav6 pinned power mounting fitted, no big gap at the back of the XT and I wired it to the original power socket down behind the fairing so it turns off 20 seconds or so after you turn the ignition off. The cost? just a little patience and time.

Hi. I've the same nav and adapter on my bike. Very pleased with it. The XT should power down on its own after a short period of time, when the ignition is switched off. There should be a setting for this in the Garmin 'settings menu' if I recall correctly

I have a Nav V and as you say nothing but trouble --now going to invest in a XT2.;-)

I went through 4 of the Navigators which to BMW’s credit were all replaced under warranty but enough was enough. Same issue of yours and I’m considering the Zumo.
Thanks for the vid.

Excellent video. Did you splice in the Zumo XT power converter or is the device functioning ok connected directly to BMW supplied power?

Plus 1 from me. I used the 3dam adapter for my zumo xt2, it works great.

Nice Video. I just mounted up my XT2. I did have to buy a new mounting plate from amazon for $20, because the mounting plate that comes with the XT2 on the handlebar mount kit won't fit. It's been updated to use 3 screws to attach the pigtail. You still have to use the shorter 4 screws that come with the handlebar mount and use the washers. on the XT2 the unit will turn off after shutting the bike power off as long as the units on the Home Screen. Thanks!

Is the Garmin component ordered separately from Garmin? If so, are there variable specs?

It’s 100% true I order one and got it in 3-4 days

I use my nav vi to monitor my fuel range and tire pressure, can you do this with the XTER?

Thank you! I am torn on the Cradle or the XT. Looks like the 1250 is getting used for purpose too! I hit the sub button.

I wish I had known this - like you I am done with the Nav 6, I had three failed in the same way that you describe. I got so annoyed that I complained to Garmin and asked Garmin to switch me out a Zumo XT. To my surprise they did. However, I went with the Touratech mount as I did not realize that there was another option.

Jason: I'm pretty sure we met and sat together at dinner with a few other guys at the Get On Festival in the Mojave last week. We both confessed our dislike of Cooper Web and our dismay that Roczen repeatedly lets us down. You should have mentioned you had a YouTube channel....maybe I should have mentioned I had one as well. Anyway, this video on mounting the Zumo XT was great. I had been using my phone and the BMW connected app and it worked fine until this year in the Mojave. My phone kept shutting down because of the heat. I just started researching Nav units other then the BMW one (I even think you talked in the Mojave about how bad the BMW one is) and I ran across your channel. Anyway, great piece of content, thanks for the link to the adapter and the install

I elected to go with the BMW Connected Ride Cradle using my old iPhone. I keep my 14PMax in my pocket. My dealer refund to sell the the Nav6 last year lol. I’ve been happy using the cradle, but I’m thinking of doubling up with the XT2 bar mounted for some adventures. Sometimes the gps on the phone starts wandering all over the place instead of staying on track. I can’t remember if the Garmin did that also.

Just FYI: The Zumo does shut off by itself when the ignition is turned off if you wait about 30 seconds.

The GPS aren't locked =)
Just push the release on the "Zumo Bracket" =)
But the Adapter is locked...
