Porch Swing and Arbor Build Video : Update for our Cabin in Broken Bow

IT'S BEEN TOO LONG. I finally have another woodworking video for the internet. I built a porch swing, with an arbor, for our cabin in Broken Bow (Hochatown), Oklahoma. ENJOY!

I'm not sure if you should call it an arbor or a pergola, but it's a structure that holds our swing. It's build from pressure treated wood that I gathered at our local Home Depot. I found it on Pinterest while looking around at different swings. I couldn't find any plans, but the exploded view on Pinterest was enough for me to figure it out.

The swing was another Pinterest find. I loved the idea of the fold down center console. I wish I had engineered the build a bit better in my head before starting. I had to adapt the console in the middle of the project, which made it turn out not 100% awesome. I chose to leave off the side armrests, it doesn't seem to be a big deal.

I used pressure treated wood everywhere I could find the right size. The slats for the swing were pine. I did poly them, but I'm sure they'll need some upkeep. Once the arbor wood dries, it was still wet when purchased, I plan to clean and stain a dark brown. That should happen come June this summer.

You wanna set the concrete little higher above the ground just so water doesn't sit around the wood post. That way you can avoid water damage at the very base and have a longer life for the post. You can still add some concrete mixture on around it now. Little idea, i hope it helps. Great job anyways and your kid, we need more kids like him these days. Hope your video inspires other kids and parents to teach or involve their kids with such useful choruses around the house.

Fantastic job on your swing ...I'm in the process of making one myself.im not a woodworker I'm actually an ironworker welder so I'm more used to steel than wood which I have incorporated into my swing...lol...I wish I would have filmed it..lol...I wish I would have seen your video first...also I put armrests and curved back...still working on ... maybe I can find a way to send you a picture on here when I'm done...my woodworking skills...are nowhere near as good as yours....once again great job

Hey dude! Looks like you have a sweet spot for this arbor swing. Very jealous. Could you do a brother from across the pond a favour? Where did you get the plans for the swing?

What size posts did you use? I am wanting to make a pergola like this one with a swing for our back yard. Drew up a design but needing to see how to actually build it. So did you cut all the pieces first? Asking questions while I am watching. For the top boards, you used a plate for the round part to trace. What size boards did you use? 2x6x10 or 12's?
