Krampus Run - Munich 2014 (Krampuslauf)

The 500-year old tradition of the “Krampus Run” dates back to the Christian mythological character of Bishop Saint Nicholas and his companion, “Krampus”. The members of “Sparifankerl Pass”, Munich‘s first “Krampus group”, dress up in archaic costumes, take a thrilling run across the Christmas Market and show up in the most unlikely places.

The description explaining the history of Krampus is inaccurate. Krampus is actually part of Pre-Christian German Alpine mythological pagan folklore. Not Christian at all. Although St. Nicholas (who's pretty much another form of the German mythological god Odin) did originate in Christian mythology who then inspired the character people notably know today as 'Santa Claus' around the 18th Century when the name was first used.
