So glad they didn't crop this one. This movie deserves the taller ratio it has. Just wish the final video mix wasn't 2k, but I'll take what I can get! It was mostly filmed with the alexa 65, 2.11:1 ratio at 6560 x 3100. Some with the The Arri Alexa Mini LF, which can film full 16:9 at 4448 x 3069, or a cropped 2:39:1 4448x1859.

Serkis did a fantastic job directing. Most people would've chopped off the top/bottom, make it a claustrophobic 2:39:1, and called it a day. Or shot it at the cropped 4448/1859. Even if you didn't like the movie, it was directed and produced well. Needs to direct more movies!

If it sounds like the first movie, should be a good mix! Buying the 4k just because of this good production values.

My Setup ... Sony X950G 65 inches, Sony 4k Player ... 48GB 8K HDMI cable... I had no softness or blacks getting crushed... It's all about knowing how to calibrate the TV settings... The X1 Ultimate is a beast of a processor... I'm very impressed by how this movie looked on my TV...

Wonder if Shane's overhead channels lost it on the "let there be CARNAGE" line, because I remember that part being immersive and LOUD in the theater.

Sound in my opinion is pretty good, however I was disappointed in the darkness of the video quality, lighting seemed dull on Venom and felt carnage lacked detailed during final battle.

Finally got around to Venom and I thought it was a bit soft with bad black levels on both my G1 and C8 OLEDS. The prison break and church scene was the only scenes were audio stood out, other than that the movie was a bit flat. I'll go with video a 6.75, audio an 7.5.

Happy Thanksgiving Shane! I’d recommend checking out The Suicide Squad on 4K blu ray. Super sharp image, and crazy good bass on the atmos mix.
