Traveling On Florida’s New High Speed Train, Bright Line!

I had the opportunity to take Bright line, Florida’s new high speed rail service. Bright line runs on Florida East Coast (FEC) tracks that were upgraded for high speed service. Since Bright Line is so new they are only two stations that have train service, West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale. It takes about 30 minutes to get from West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale and vice versa by the train, almost half the time it would take to drive. Later in the year 2018 Bright line plans to open up their station in Miami followed by the station in Orlando. When I took Bright line we reached speeds of 80 miles per hour, but when they start service to Miami the train will reach speeds of up to 125 miles per hour. I hope you enjoy my video of me taking Bright line round trip from West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale in first class!

Warmly, NorthEast Rail Videos.

for those that constantly say "not high speed' how do you think your high speed trains started out as? Fact is, we have to walk before we can run. Give it time and i'm sure well be having your fancy trains soon enough. :D

I don't think you noted it when you showed the seats, but it's worth mentioning... The seats recline like new airline seats in that the seat back does not "lean" into the face of the passenger behind them. Instead, the seat cushion slides out creating a recline of the back cushion. So the lady at 1:06 has nothing to worry about, lol.

Only 80 miles per hour, crossings with road traffic at street level, that really is not a high-speed train. In Europe, it would be called a regional express. But still a good thing and may help relieve the congested streets in Florida. The comfort, however, seems to be on the level of European high-speed trains, very nice!

The train is impeccably clean and the staff is extremely friendly and low fares to boot!

The waiting area for Brightline First Class passengers is a lot better than many Amtrak stations waiting rooms and most definitely much better than the airports & bus terminals.

The auto industry has a stranglehold of public funding (road construction & maintenance), so rail investments are minimal here in the US. However, wherever rail is being maintained and built, ridership is up. I believe with the new technology, the US will see a renaissance in rail travel.

This just proves how far behind Europe and Asia you currently are if you regard this service as high speed.

I really like Brightline's rolling stock livery and station designs. The whole look is very "Florida." I hope they keep the stations clean b/c all that white concrete could get grungy in a hurry. But for now they look great.

We need to invest more in new infrastructure including state of the art high speed train and rail systems nation instead of billions to defense industry complex and walls, tax break for the rich, and bank bail-out. Look how much time, less car expenses/purchases, efficiency, more real estate development along train routes, hot climate reduction, and money we will be saving in decades to come.

We can catch up with EU and Japan if we start now and employ latest technology.

79 mph = 127 km/h.
High speed. Yo :)
A good first step at least.

Best of all worlds. No earthquakes and sun all year round.

Great to see the US taking rail seriously again. It may not yet be 'high speed' in the sense used elsewhere, but it's still quicker and less tiring than driving for hours

We could've had true high-speed, but Rick Scott killed it. Remember that come election time.

I can't wait until it goes to Orlando! Hopefully Ft. Pierce will get a station like they want. Be nice to take the train directly to the airport vs. having to drive & pay all those fees.

This is technically referred to as "higher speed rail". The West Palm/Miami corridor has a 79Mph speed limit, and it will stay that way. Speeds north of West Palm to Cocoa FL will be up to 110mph, and 125 will be achieved along the 40 miles of new rail to be constructed between Cocoa and the Orlando Airport station.
