Importance of Camera Tilt | FPV 101: Phase 5, Episode 1

When an FPV drone flies it has to pitch forward in order to gain speed. Because of this an optimal FPV camera angle has to be tilted up slightly so that when moving forward you are able to see the horizon line.

FPV racers will often fly in an average range of 35-50 degrees. This allows the drone to fly at a higher speed, with greater pitch, while also enabling the pilot to see the course obstacles in front of them.

Racing is about speed. When I'm race flying in the DRL Sim I'm aiming to fly at full throttle as much as possible. For any drone combo of thrust and weight there is a camera angle at full throttle where the drone will hold a straight and level flight path with the pitch/roll stick in mid position. Camera angles steeper than that make flying just above the ground difficult. Flying at the balance point angle makes aiming for gaps and gates much easier. The angle varies significantly between drones so you need to experiment to find it. And even just 1 degree makes a difference between balanced and drifting up or down.
Much of my DRL flying is done at tilt angles higher than 55 degrees. At angles above 45 degrees, drone movement relative to the pilots visual axis, Roll tends to behave more and more like Yaw, while Yaw tends to inverted Roll. I have setup my controller for these angles with Roll and Yaw swapped, then Yaw INVERTED. But I then fly it as if no swap has occurred. I call this High Angle Mode.

What camera tilt would you normally fly at with a cinewhoop in doors?

Terrance haward invented the drone from a geometric patern

I'll start with 15 degrees and go from there. I have never flown an FPV drone before and I don't plan to race.. just cruise around.
