Clarity Ep 24 - Using a Router and Template to Finesse the Shape of the Guitar

preview_player
Показать описание

In this episode, Ben uses the template again to finesse the final shape of the body of the guitar, which is based on a Robert Fripp, Les Paul style design.
Please note: Ben no longer uses doubled-sided tape as he has now learned the 'greatest luthier's trick of all time!'

Great video as ever, this guitar is coming together beautifully. Is it worth cutting another identical template without the cutouts for cavity routing. Then you could screw it firmly to the body where the pickup routes will be going.

As a woodworker myself, I love the doublesided carpet tape. I may be wrong, but I would have used at least double the amount of tape. Never had issues with things moving on me. Love following your work, learning quite a lot!

So cool to hear someone on video sigh and say, "I'm still saying obviously." I'm a professional speaker and its so important to keep 'crutch words' under control. I've had "obviously", "a bit", "tricky", "as well" ... others I can't think of. I've been in the biz almost 20 years and they still creep in. You ever watch Michael Collins' video set on building gypsy jazz guitars? Great video but he must say 'obviously' 200 times. Good on ya for recognising it.

where do you get your wood supplied from because i am looking for some Mexican Cocobolo for a fretboard, and some nice madagascan ebony for the body top and some indian rose wood for the body (2 part). also where do you get your hardware? i love the jack input guard and the pickup surround! i have found the pickup surround but not the jack input i was wondering if you had any in stock to buy?

Ben, is there a reason why you put the ds tape on the body and not on the template ? Think you know why I'm asking. ;-) Love your videos. Learned really a lot.

Its funny, in some camera angles I find myself thinking that this body wood looks kinda plain jane. Then the right light hits it, and the wood pops. looks stunning.

I'm having trouble finding adhesive backed sandpaper locally. I know where to find it online, but is there any reason why I shouldn't use regular sandpaper and thin double sided tape instead? Thank you!

"That is going to be a stunning guitar". Have I heard more of an understatement? Not lately....

God your a messy bugger Ben why don't you put a bin next to your workbench instead of throwing everything on the floor, it saves time a bin does, now you've got to deal with it again by sweeping it up.(I'm talking about those bits of tape but I always see you doing it) I sound like my Dad which annoys me but I know he was right. In a clean environment you work and think better especially if it's painted in a yellow hue apparently
