Показать описание
The Hague's Baroque Orchestra, The New Dutch Academy, with conductor Simon Murphy and soloists Caroline Copeland Baroque dance and choreography, soprano Stefanie True and oboist Amy Power, perform the programme "Empress of Pleasure" at the Philipszaal, Spuiplein, The Hague. The programme celebrates "Mrs Cornelys" - actress, opera impressario, mother of Casanova's daughter - and her glittering 18th century London artistic circle which included composer/performers JC Bach and CF Abel, the painter Gainsborough and the actor Garrick.
Mrs Cornelys established the legendary London Bach/Abel concerts and also had a kind of 18th century "Moulin Rouge" where she held her infamous "Masques" or "Entertainments". These 18th century "Rave Parties" were heady, drink and drug fuelled, high society events, featuring music, dance, gambling and sexual intrigues and would still shock today.
