The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology has developed guidelines for learning for the subspecialty of reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI). These guidelines specify that training in this subspecialty should include training in early pregnancy normal and abnormal. This internet activity is designed to provide such training to reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellows as well as other practitioners of reproductive medicine.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:
1. Discuss when and why pregnancies fail, and the prognostic significance of pregnancy failure.
2. Describe the biochemical detection of hCG and its relationship to pregnancy failure.
3. List the characteristics of a pregnancy of unknown location (PUL).
4. Explain the relationship of ultrasound and biochemical testing in the detection of PUL.
5. Discuss the use of methotrexate in management of nonviable pregnancy.
