Basic principles of physics dictate that light behaves differently underwater, an irritating phenomenon that always used to cause headaches for filmmakers attempting to shoot clear and undistorted images. However the work of Pawel Achtel changed all this. For the first time in history, he applied a combination of traditional and modern filming techniques and apparatus in order to attain the same precision of quality underwater as above water. Mark Horstman investigates how he did this.
