It's instructional isn't it that they recognized that the salute was inappropriate because the Nazis did it, but didn't realize that the pledge itself was also bad because the Nazis did a pledge. No doubt their reasoning was that one pledge was to a man and the other to a flag, but both were to an idol. A pledge to a flag is illogical.

I always omit the "under God" part and have always recited the pledge the way I learned it.

It IS a little odd that we make kids take a daily loyalty oath to the country . . .

It kills me that so many right wingers are obsessed with making the schoolkids say the pledge of allegiance blindly. I'm more concerned with the implications and the kids having some critical thinking skills.

My dad, born in 1929 validates this story. He used to salute the flag with a stiff outstretched arm when he was in school.

In the words of Pink Floyd Hey teacher leave those kids alone. All in all you were all just bricks in the wall❤

In the Catholic Church I used to attend the congregation would raise their hands in such a fashion whenever someone was being recognized I.e. mothers on Mothers Day, teachers at the beginning of a new school year, veterans on the Sunday closest to Veterans Day, etc. When I first saw this I was taken aback. I asked my wife what she thought a Jewish person would think if they walked into the church when that was being done. I didn’t raise my hand in that fashion and never did.

How many kids actually know what they’re saying? Are they just gabbling words that sound similar, sort of like that scene in Planet of the Apes where the apes recite some garbled version of some oath (don’t remember which and I’m not American).
I have definite memories of singing “peas and jelly toast proclaim” as a Xmas carol.

Under God was pushed by Eisenhower. I can remember it well.

We always put our hand on our heart when singing" God save the Queen". Also we have banned that Belamy/Nazi salute and Nazi paraphernalia publicly in Oz.

I pledge allegiance to liberty and justice for all.

That's it, all that crap in the middle has nothing to do with me.

Not to be that person but since history matters a lot to me, it wasn't post 1945 that the salute was changed to hand over heart it was December 22 1942. If you want to check me look up Public Law 77-829 chapter 806 under section 7. It replaced Public Law 77-623 chapter 435's section 7 which included the Bellamy Salute. Just wanted a clear timeline of the US flag code and the salute.

I've noticed the thing that Humanity seems to tout the most is their belief in God or their disbelief of a god most things seem to orient from that center, eventually even if not immediately perceptible❤

The pledge is not the only thing kids are getting indoctrinated in schools with. In fact, it's one of the least insane things.

Some of those photos must have been real awkward to explain to grandkids post WW2.

Pledge of Allegance is perfomed in the schools only in USA, China, Russia and DPRK.

Your previous video led to a great conversation with my adult daughter last night. This will likely lead to another one!😊

On a related note, "under God" was also not on U.S. currency until the 1950s. Collectors of old currency call these bills "Godless" to indicate the lack of the motto on the back of those bills.
