Microsoft just LOVES to rebuild its apps lol. At least, here's hoping we get a functional media player again.

About the start menu: They should add an option to make "all apps" the standart

am i the only one that loves win 10's tiles? the fact that they work like widgets, the fact that you can create folders and make visual hierarchy by using the various size options was something not present on any other version of windows...

What about an option "No Recommendations"

I was rather hoping the new media player might replace the movies and tv app for purchased video, as it does not currently handle lots of videos being downloaded locally. But, hopefully they will fix that in time.

I would like the ability to pin All Apps to the left side as a scrollable column. But that makes it look too much like Windows 10 so they probably won't do it.

Ah yes the new "show more recommended" option... When you ever feel useless and down about things, just think about that option in windows 11 it has it far worse, isn't no one using that option or wanting it. Would love a proper "hide all recommended" option as I'm sure most would.. But that's advertising space Microsoft wants to keep for a later date i guess.

Still waiting for stable Android app support. Hopefully it releases worldwide before 2022 ends.

1:27 wouldn't unchecking option "Show recently opened items in Start, ..." just remove recent documents from start menu?

When watching anything in fullscreen on my surface I could always swipe from the right edge to get brightness control, very sad to see that go in Win 11

Customization on the Start Menu is always nice, but I don't use the pinned apps, if I want something pinned I'll have it on the taskbar. I'd rather customize the Start Menu to always my entire list of apps just like Windows 10 did, hope they add this option in the future.

The lines might not be a bug, Microsoft has for a long time now been embracing the glassmorphic aesthetic, so it makes sense for them to give the “glass” elements thin and light edges and highlights, though this doesn’t look like the best possible execution

Of course this is very subjective 😅 but Zac expressed everything I was already venting about the lines. In the initial insider release of Windows 11, there were lines around the borders of windows but it was significantly less prominent and blended in more which personally looked cleaner. There was eventually an update (maybe early September?) and I noticed that the lines around the window borders were very pronounced and not serving much aesthetic purpose. Ever since then, it just hasn't been a vibe for me "personally". I couldn't tell if it was a design or accessibility choice... Both of which I have a hard time justifying. I guess it's not a big deal but like... idk. why?? oh well 🙄. I should mention that there was an update in Windows 10 (not an insider build) that made the lines around the window borders look really messed up and it was like nobody was talking about it! The top border would be black and the bottom, left and right would be oddly transparent. It looked like an ugly graphical bug but that was the case for "all" devices since that update and it was never ever fixed!!
Ok, now going to the taskbar thing. I'm just going to trust that it doesn't look like that in the public release where the line doesn't reach the end of the screen. I'm looking at it right now and it's just... I got nothing more to say. I just wish it was less pronounced or even perhaps gone but that's just my personal opinion.

I don't understand the statement at 6:04 i.e "Media Player is an app that can now play video files". Windows 95 shipped with a video of Edie Brickell and the new Bohemians on the Cd and it played in Media player, so hardly anything new there. I'm running build 22000.282 and can run .MKV files in the media player without adding codecs (that's good) and all my videos will play in "movies and Tv" app as well as media player so I doubt there would be any change to that functionality.

That strange line in the taskbar was there since the very first dev build. I told them many times and they still haven't fixed it, so it still ends at the system tray icons.

I hope they'll expand the subsystem for Android to allow sideloading and debugging; basically make it like the Android emulator, but more integrated into Windows (and therefore, hopefully faster while being lighter on resources). As an Android developer, this would be really helpful.

The line on the taskbar is new, but I'm pretty sure the lines on the windows you mentioned have been there since W11 release.
