Today, we’ll be learning about contractions. A contraction is a word made by shortening and combining two words. When a contraction is written in English, the omitted letters are replaced by an apostrophe (').

Here are some common contractions:
I am → I'm
I will → I'll
I would → I'd
you are → you're
you have → you've
he will → he'll
she would → she'd
would not → wouldn't
do not → don't
does not → doesn't
did not → didn't
cannot → can't
could not → couldn't
should not → shouldn't

See the video for more! People use contractions in both speaking and writing. Remember, contractions are kinda informal. So you shouldn’t use contractions when you speak or write formally.

My favourite not mentioned in this video is it’dn’t’ve, or it didn’t (did not) have
In a sentence: it’dn’t’ve had to happen though. It’s not used a lot in the professional adult world but in the teen world (where I am) it’s used a lot because we’re lazy and like to slur words together so it did not have got changed to it’dn’t’ve
