Sony Exec Says 'Vloggers Are Dumb' Need Simplified Cameras

Are vloggers dumb? Sony seems to think so. In an interview with DPReview, Sony executive says vloggers need very dumbed down gear because of how useless we are. I'm paraphrasing :) So no need to search for the best vlogging camera, for vlogs you just need a simplified camera full auto that looks like a camera you win at an amusement park.

He didn't call us idiot's, he just said he wants to simplify the controls, though I doubt they will remove the manual controls, or maybe have different levels of gear, ... like they already do. The problem for all large corporations is that decision making is done by high paid executives and engineers who live in gated communities and have little contact with ordinary users. Most of their information comes from focus groups and similar marketing research. The problem with this kind of research is that the results are colored by the limitations of the questions asked, and people who are already out of touch have no idea what are the right questions to ask.

Japan was great at producing cameras that users wanted and needed back in the 1960’s and 1970’s. That is because the key people at Canon, and Pentax, and Nikon, and Olympus were enthusiast photographers who knew what was required because they spent all their non-working hours taking photographs. They knew, because they were one of us. Now, which school they went to is more important than how passionate they are about making videos and photographs. They are no longer one of us, so they have no idea what we really need.

Honestly the zv1 is already working. I stumbled across a vlog channel with 300 subs yesterday. Girl from Holland who was moving to Bali. I knew it was the zv1 because of the tighter face shots and background blur and confirmed by asking in a comment. Footage looked amazing though. Always good exposure and no AF issues at all and the audio was perfect. I don't think someone like that would ever care to learn about lenses or full frame.
