Obidos Medieval Fair, part 2 | Portugal

Part 2 of the walking tour at the Obidos Medieval Fair! Obidos, Portugal, is a small, but beautiful town inside the walls of an ancient castle. A medieval market recreates the Middle Ages in Obidos for about 2 weeks every July. At the Obidos Medieval Fair visitors are taken on a journey back in time to medieval Europe in different ways, including in the food served at several stalls. There are tournaments and jousts, knights and fortune tellers stand around the large terrace behind the castle, and you can enjoy theater performances and concerts of medieval music on a big stage!

This walk was filmed in 4K resolution, first-person point of view with captions (no talking), for a more immersive experience!

Olá Miguel, Boa Noite!! I loved this! You know, I never had much interest in medieval fairs but this was incredible. I'm not surprised, of course.

Everything is better in Portugal 😉 (well, at least these sorts of things 😅) It fascinates me to see my beautiful sleepy Óbidos become so hustling and bustling.

When I first arrived it was Christmas so there were plenty of things going on, but I never ventured to the other side of the castle where all the events were happening... mostly because I thought it was for children. (Óbidos is so pretty at Christmas). I loved my weekly visits and of course the Ginja... I prefer it in the little ceramic castle with hot chocolate, ha ha.

A coisa mais bonita que vi em Óbidos foi o pôr-do-sol para o Ocidente. As cores eram espectaculares sobre os campos de ouro e verde. Só lá o descobri no meu último mês... havia caminhos a seguir no lado ocidental exterior... era sereno.

Mais uma vez, puxou-me o coração e o meu desejo de estar de volta ao país dos meus sonhos. Saudades.
Estou apenas grato!!

An excellent opportunity for me to compare this festival with a similar one held annually in Cittadella, the province of Veneto, Italy. I attended this Italian medieval reenactment on September 28, 2017 and I was blown away. Cittadella was built by the city of Padova in 1220. Its walls are taller than the walls of ancient Rome! And they survived intact! The visitor can safely walk on top of the walls all around the city. Of course, there are many buildings outside the walls. As far as the Italian and the Portuguese festivals are concerned, they are both major attractions. What surprised me in Cittadella was that I saw no foreign tourists. Were there any foreigners in Obidos? The latter festival includes more thrilling features than the one in Cittadella, such as jousts and tournaments, simulated beheadings and the like. The final procession in Cittadella, held both during the day and at night, with torches and fire eaters, was also a pleasure to watch. But the Obidos festival felt livelier! I don't know if I will ever make it to Obidos, so many thanks for this excursion through the Portuguese Middle Ages.

As buganvíleas estão lindas! No Parque Municipal, aqui em BH, tem uma que, pelo menos na década de 80 do século passado, tinha, pelo menos, uns 30 cm de diâmetro no caule! Elas costumam entrar por baixo dos telhados e arrancam as telhas. São trepadeiras bastante vigorosas!
O passeio fo interessantíssimo, como o primeiro! Gostei muito! Parabéns!

Olá Miguel. Tudo bem?? É sempre muito bom passear em Óbidos e conhecer essa festa medieval foi muito legal. Eu já tinha ouvido falar dela, mas assistí-la foi super legal. Mudando de assunto, te pergunto: vc já fez algum vídeo sobre o Palácio Nacional da Pena?? Estive lá uma vez, mas agora lendo sobre ele descobri que além de lindo, tem uma história muito significativa não só pela sua origem como pela sua história (mais recente) com o término da Monarquia Portuguesa. Acho que vc contando a história seria um excelente vídeo. Parabéns pelo vídeo de hoje, foi diferente e muito bom!!! Abraços.
