Uber Scandal: What did ex-CEO Travis Kalanick do with his $2.5 billion payout?

Hi everyone! This one is quite interesting. A few thoughts that I've had after the editing. I am a fan of people who are good at growing businesses, scaling their team and making a company successful against the odds. I also think that B2C entrepreneurs that directly service citizens are often in the limelight. B2B is a safer place for anyone who dislikes PR and being "woke". Travis was kicked out of Uber because of PR so I hope that he can do his thing without the scruitiny of the media in his newest venture.

And here some summaries:

Travis Kalanick: Co-founded Uber in 2010 and was forced to resign in 2017. Stayed on the board until 2019 but was also forced to leave. Was controversial due to their company culture and his neglect to address [censored due to guidelines] cases. He sold 90% of Uber stock and gained $2.5B. He created a venture fund and he bought controlling shares and became CEO of a cloud kitchen startup in 2018 (of City Storage Systems LLC which owns the trademark CloudKitchens)

Uber: Ride-sharing company founded in 2010 and expanding in freight, food delivery and other sectors.

CloudKitchens: A startup providing kitchen spaces, delivery and fulfilment services to restaurants. 40 employees according to LinkedIn. Wendy's and Burger King are partners.

- As Uber founder Travis Kalanick prepared to leave Uber’s board of directors in 2019, he was already hyping his next venture: a startup called CloudKitchens that rents out space to restaurants for delivery-only services. He predicted at the time that the startup would be “bigger than Uber.”

Hi everyone! Thanks for the nice response! For the few sensitive ones who noted things about harassment: "Bro culture" is not harassment and I never said that harassment is fine (obviously). The media used that argument to demonize Travis but I bet that CNN, FOX, Reuters all have harassment cases no one talks about. Also, I don't know how many times I have to say "if it's legal, it's fine with me" until people get it because that excludes harassment by default haha. Thanks to everyone who got it right away 🙏🙏🙏🙏 Who/what should I analyze next? What can I improve?

Great vid! Minor FYI; "freight" is pronounced as "fr-8"' in English not like "fr-eye-te" - very understandable slip given the difference between German/English; but it sounds weird to us; apart from that one minor thing your English is flawless, just the tiniest European accent (which, as a British person living in the US, I find is not a bad thing at all!)</feedback>

Focus on revenge is typical for grandiose narcissists.

You've stated (in your own words) that we should let these business owners do "whatever they want" unless it is illegal. But... discrimination IS illegal. And sexual harassment IS illegal. At least it is, here in the USA. And there is no reason to be permissive of these crimes any more than that we should permit mail fraud. If he's a great business guy, great --- just don't treat people and the law with disrespect. Also, "wanting revenge" is not a good reason to start or own a business, in my opinion. Other than that, I liked your analysis of the businesses!

I've seen it said that Uber will never make a profit. If that is so, it is less than worthless. I am amazed at how much it spends to simply set up taxi firms where the drivers provide the vehicles and fuel, and it provides an app, which is basically a mapping and routing app, and takes all the money.

It's that face of his
It's that soothing drawl
I always crawl
Back into the place
Where I dream
Where he speaks
Of people who are made of crap
He's my unique
Walk into a trap
I always recognize you
I'm just a little brat
I hear that soothing voice
Coming through the wall
Through the digital doors
It still rings inside my ears
I don't care
I always stare
I could look for a hundred years
Yeah imagine that
I imagine that
In the middle of the Pacific
There's a big and shiny star
I'm not sure what they call it
Can you see it?
It might be a little far
Up inside the galaxy
I watch it every night till day
I don't know what they call it
Maybe you could explain?
Why does this light always shine?
After sundown
I feel silly saying this
But does anyone else in this town?
I flew to Germany
They were out of beer
Then I walked to Silicone valley
No one was there
Yeah nobody there
Maybe you could explain?

Goeff looks like a comic book charakter;) I hear about this business for the first time. but I actually think they should get into the delivery and ditch the uberdrive. I think they have a chance of success in big cities. famous and established restaurants may want to have a kitchen that only prepares take-away dishes. Do you have any interviews with Travis?

Jeff Beysos started as an online book store. And then lightbulb,
We can sell anything with this business blueprint.
All (most of) the local book stores closed and then.... yep
free enterprise, blocking and chocking small businesses all over the world, I'll take them all. Witch way. I do know which provides more employment/competition and quality.

I just don't know.

To hell with Milton Friedman you can't have a company that treats women like crap. Frat boy mentality is not a good business model

I liked your videos and your analysis, but I just cannot agree at all with your "hot take" regarding a toxic culture at work, "taking the shot" or "letting him do whatever he wants" in the interest of a business. As a women, those are among the typical responses we receive when reporting harassment, abuse and toxic environments at work, and many times, what we report actually constitutes illegal action, so the fact that they were ignored or not pursuit by the victims does not mean they were not illegal. It sounds to me that by saying that you not only condone such actions (sometimes illegal) but by perpetuating these "hot takes" you are part of the "bro culture" yourself. I'm disappointed to realize you are not an ally to women :(

Travis is a G. People do make mistakes but I don’t believe in the overall manipulation and lack of any resolution or truth seeking of cancel culture. Cloud kitchens will BE HUGE. their team is exceptional and they have a strong leader with a real chip on his shoulder. I think that’s dangerous but also awesome. He will likely be invited back to Uber if ck pans out, like Steve Jobs when he returned to Apple.
