Valle Nevado: What it's Like for a Day

I've known about Valle Nevado ski resort in Chile for a long time and always wondered what it was like. Well, I finally went and here is a sample of what you can expect if you go there.

An advanced skier or snowboarder may be able to cover the entire mountain in one day, particularly if they are only skiing or snowboarding on groomed slopes. There are a few slopes at the top of the trail map that are only accessible by T-bar or other surface lift, so if you only like chairlifts, you will have to forego those slopes.

Ultimately, it is a great ski resort -- the largest in Chile. If you spend the extra money to buy a ticket for La Parva and El Colorado, which are connected to Valle Nevado, you will be skiing or snowboarding the largest combined ski resort in South America.

Looks like a cool little mountain. Just found out about it while researching the mountain collective pass. Always wanted to make a trip to the southern hemisphere, and boarding in July sounds awesome reason to go. Great video!

Very nice video. I skied there last year and didn't know what to expect.

This really lays things out for people looking to Ski down south.

Delta has daily flights from Atlanta.
I'd do a day in Santiago (or two) then head up the next morning.

Thank you so much Mr. New York. I have been looking for specifically videos on skiing in South America and to be honest yours is one of the best by far. Please keep doing this South American tips and trick skiing/ riding would be so awesome!. So on this video. Wow! You're editing and detail is really appreciative. I know how absolutely grueling it is to do a production like this and you're trying to have fun and ski .. The absolute work and dedication to this is not lost me .., ....know this! ... Yeah you captured the heart pumping steeps quite well. My heart was pumping. This is literally what I live for. I definitely am an on- piste skier .. and was laughing when you were in that trench because that looks super groomed to me cuz I'm used being in the crud of crud .. that place was so beautifully groomed.. I want in.... Anyways thank you thank you. Thank you for all your hard work. It's so appreciative., .. side note.. One of my favorite things to ask skier people is.... Hey... Which state has the most ski resorts in the USA? And well you know the answer to that? No one's ever gotten it right... I also tell them that Wisconsin has the same amount of ski resorts as Colorado, which always was not expected actually. I think Wisconsin has technically one last after this year but whatever.

Hola, soy de Colombia, fui como principiante a Valle Nevado y fue espectacular. Es mas difícil de lo que parece, pero pude llegar abajo sana y salva por la ruta verde.

Great video. In July of 2011 I went down there, but I did day ski trips from Santiago. Ski Total is the best ski bus company from metro Santiago to all the ski venues. Did Portillo (frankly underwhelming……..except Roca Jack.) That was a long day trip, but I didn’t want to spend the big bucks on the Portillo Hotel’s seven day minimum stay policy. Next did El Colorado. 90 minute drive but 52 curves going up…….pro tip, don’t sit in a seat facing backwards🤮. Last day was Valle Nevado. Ski heaven on earth. Great terrain. Mid week skiing……I owned the mountain.

Thanks for this useful video. In your opinion, is it feasible and worthwhile to stay in the city and take a shuttle up to Valle Nevado daily? I saw a service called Total Ski online that has a shuttle and Airbnbs in the city seem pretty cheap.

A nice review of a pleasant looking mountain. The reason So. Am. skiing doesn't get much love is that even though there are some outstanding areas, is it's not really enough to draw other than the uber-uber-uber hard core skiers. After a season in in the No. Hem. people are really ready for spring and summer. In addition, So. Am. isn't know for big pow, not saying there isn't some, but it's no Snowbird or Alta which would be needed as a big draw in summer. Also, they're competing against the English speaking areas in Australia and New Zealand which may offer better package deals.(and a side trip to Bali/Morena)

How do you set up your camera to record yourself? Really nice!

Nice to see other parts of the world 👍 IMHO, I think a "follow camera" gets the best shots, but some of your 360 from slightly behind were really nice.

Amazing! I am going this year. Which month did you visit Valle Nevado?

What month was this recorded? Planning a trip with some friends for next year and would like to plan around when the most snow usually falls. July, I hear is peak time and would like to go when there is the best chance of powder. Great video, thank you!
