Glyn Morgan of Anglers Den Sussex and angling writer Jim Whippy talk about the different types of weights for shore fishing, inc leads from Breakaway and Gemini.

Flattie Leads are a plain non wired lead designed to fish over mud flats etc., in slow tides, for Flounders and fish that may be tempted by a slow moving bait. The lead settles on the mud, rather than disappearing into it like most plain leads will. It will hug the bottom and move slowly in the tide searching out the fish. The flat lead will plane to the surface on the retrieve.
Available in 85 or 150 grams.
The Gemini Breakout leads are a very versatile piece of tackle. Because the gripwires breakaway independently of each other, it gives them greater holding power in strong tides and rough weather. The nose cone can also be replaced with a fixed wire assembly, turning them from a breakout lead into a fixed wire lead, ideal for use in very strong tides, uptiding from a boat or very rough weather from the beach.

The original standard Breakaway Lead is used around the world for over 35 years by millions of anglers. Holds across the tide with the wires locked into the recesses by the nylon rollers when fishing, but folds back on the strike, making the retrieval easier on tackle and fish.
Over the years the shape and its overall performance has changed to keep up with the demands of the most serious anglers.

Breakaway Impact Leads are the ultimate range of leads for todays match anglers. The aerodynamic design of the Impact lead helps put your bait out to the maximum distance and the wire formation keeps you there, where the fish are. This range of leads all use the Impact cone to release the baited hook from the integral bait clip on impact with the water. The advantage of this method is that you know when the bait becomes unclipped, and as the bait travels through the water its forced onto the hook bend and not up the trace length. All good rigs would still incorporate a bait stop.
