I text my wife every day "Love you wife" and she has no idea why until she sees this movie. This scene always stuck with me.

It's been years. But I always remember this movie by this line.

I remember getting this on DVD. Wife came in the man cave and I was bawling during this scene. Hit the rewind button and she was bawling as well. Very powerful scene. Mary was just on point and you felt 💯% pain from her performance!

I’ve been married 30 years, the wife and I still say “Love you wife” and “love you husband”

This has to be one of the most touching things I have seen in any movie . I do love the way it was written into the movie

This scene, the scene where Bud and Lindsey are stuck in the flooding minisub trying to work out how to get her out, and the scene where Bud revives her are some of the most gut wrenching, emotional stuff ever put to film. I dont think theres ever been a better executed example of an estranged couple putting aside their bs when its all falling apart to fully accept, embrace, and surrender to the love they have for each other deep down. Beautifully done

Jeopardy, Jackson. Jeopardy always works

Best underwater sci fi movie ever. This scene is one of the reasons. James Cameron is a genius, the script was perfect, and the actors just killed it.

Lindsay pleading with him to come back up gets me everytime. And that one simple line: "Love you Wife"

I absolutely LOVE the background music that plays when Bud tells Lindsey "love you wife." It's not loud or bombastic, nor is it overly sentimental. It's melancholic because of the idea that he would die down there alone, but with a touch of heartwarming, because those words of love would eventually save the world from total destruction.

And this my friends is why James Cameron is amongst the greatest film makers of all time. Not because of his groundbreaking special effects, high budget films. Because of scenes like this. Another great scene is in T2 where John Connor and the Terminator are bonding and giving high fives.. and Sarah watches and accepts The Terminator as the protector for John.

"No no no you won't stay there, you can breath shallow, you hear me?...."

Ya that's it's....game over for me at that point. Even the extended version of this scene...damn.

I remember watching this with my dad. I noticed he was very moved by this scene. I was a kid and couldn't understand why. So he explained to me how the character was willing to sacrifice himself not for his wife or his crew. But also for complete strangers. That is when I understood selfless beyond the biblical.

Anyone else become a sobbing mess during this every single time?

That was a really good movie. I had always seen the broadcast version and think it was a disservice to the movie by cutting out the part with the giant wave at the end and the public's reaction. Thanks for sharing.
