They are indeed on Barsoom, I never doubted that... but seeing as how they have a tendency to change things (and since we now know how Mars really is) I thought it might have been changed... the story would be on a planet called Barsoom, but it would have been in another solar system.

This was my first impression, when I first watched the trailer... but after reading about the movie I realized I was wrong... Barsoom remains Mars and the character will be called John Carter of Mars in the end.

Excellent Movie. This movie earned over 100 million when you include the foreign audience. This movie is 3.5 out of 4 stars. Carl Sagan loved the Sci Fi books of Edgar Rice Burroughs and there is a good reason. If I had 4 arms, I would give it four thumbs up. Rocking core science fiction. Awesome and an excellent movie, and yes, I will buy it on DVD. Raging cool 3D! IMAX Xtreme!

Unfortunately Hollywood has ripped off so many of the old classical stories and authors, that the average moviegoer doesn’t actually know what came out first. They just know that they saw Avatar in 2009 and that outfit on John Carter kinda looks like the outfit from Prince of Persia.

John Carter is actually an awesome movie that wasn’t represented by the trailer very well.

Anybody else notice that the disney trailer of this movie is more about comedy and fun adventure while the other official trailer is about death, battles, and hardcore adventure with romance.

Been waiting for this for YEARS! It's about though they've already messed up on Carters appearance. His eyes are supposed to be gray, and he's from Virginia. He should have a southern accent.

I was trying to remember where I recognised those green guys from. In an episode of Cosmos (the ep about about Mars), Carl Sagan is recounting the stories and comics he grew up with, and the picture of Mars they painted - this story was one of them.
