From my observations as a shade tree intellectual, children pick up on bias before they reach pre-school if they have even one supremacist parent. My own upbringing had conflicting double messages. So, later on in possible confrontational situations with people of color I wasn't well equiped in a social dynamic way, just fell back on stereotypes or behavior that exhibited an attitude I wasn't aware I was even expressing.
