Lyrics:

Come as you are, as you were
As I want you to be
As a friend, as a friend
As an old enemy

Take your time, hurry up
Choice is yours, don't be late
Take a rest as a friend
As an old

Memoria, memoria
Memoria, memoria

Come doused in mud, soaked in bleach
As I want you to be
As a trend, as a friend
As an old

Memoria, memoria
Memoria, memoria

When I swear that I don't have a gun
No, I don't have a gun
No, I don't have a gun

Memoria, memoria
Memoria, memoria
(No I don't have a gun)

When I swear that I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun
No I don't have a gun

How the hell did Killing Joke release music that could be played in any decade and still be a monster. These guys are timeless in my opinion.

Some people accuse Nirvana of ripping off riffs for song called “Come as you are”.I agree that it’s got smth in common.Nevertheless, i reckon Curt just get inspired and he didn’t pursue the goals of impersonating the author of this wonderful riff

Come As You Are sounds A LOT like this song! Here's a article i found on the story between the two songs...

"Manager Danny Goldberg said of the release of "Come As You Are" as Nirvana's second Nevermind single, "Kurt was nervous about "Come as You Are" because it was too similar to a Killing Joke song...Killing Joke later did complain about it." After the Nirvana song was a hit, Killing Joke reportedly threatened to sue Nirvana. Nirvana's lawyer said the band had never heard of Killing Joke despite the fact that Nirvana had sent Killing Joke Christmas cards in the past. After Kurt Cobain's death lawsuit plans were dropped. Dave Grohl later played drums on Killing Joke's entire self-titled 2003 album for free"

While everyone is talking about how similar this song is to Come As You Are, we forget that “Eighties” is great in its own right. It’s a song that harshly critiques the political and social landscape of the 80s, even if the lyrics seem vague the video makes the bands intentions clear. And it came out in the middle of the 80s!

Portland had a very deep and strong Goth Culture in the 80s and 90s. Nirvana really did cut their teeth in Portland in the late 80s. I can't help but to think this was where the influence for Come As You Are came from. Also, listen to The Wipers, and you will absolutely hear that Nirvana sound... because The Melvins had been influenced by The Wipers.

I am still living in the 80s. How can I forget them when I lived through them. The cold war, Reagan's "tricycle" down economics.

Dr Alex told me Jaz Coleman didn't have any real lyrics for this originally - he just made them up as they did the vocal takes. So what ended up on the recording was mostly Jaz busking it. I can believe that.
