This India's Biggest Airline is Facing a BIG TROUBLE! Here’s Why
In a high-stakes battle for supremacy, IndiGo, the reigning giant of India's domestic aviation, is staring down a MASSIVE problem. With Air India charging ahead like a war horse, the competition is FIERCER than ever. With the alliance with Vistara, it is set to redefine the aviation landscape, positioning Air India as a formidable competitor.
So, what is the HUGE problem? How does Indigo maintain its position in the Indian aviation industry? Let's find out in today's episode.
IndiGo is currently navigating a storm of challenges, with four key issues impacting its competitive edge. On May 15, 2024, the aviation landscape was rocked by the announcement that Vistara, one of India's major airlines, would merge with the powerhouse Air India. This merger, backed by Tata’s ambitious plan to invest a staggering 70 billion dollars in 470 new aircraft, sets the stage for a fierce battle in the skies.
This India's Biggest Airline is Facing a BIG TROUBLE! Here’s Why
If IndiGo doesn’t step up and enhance its competitive strategies, it risks being left in the dust as its rivals soar ahead. The clock is ticking! Without decisive action, IndiGo may find itself outpaced by the very competition it once dominated.
The question is: Will IndiGo rise to the challenge or be grounded by its complacency?
Indigo is the biggest domestic airline in India with over 370 aircraft and 122 destinations. This airline serves 61.6% of domestic flights with over 2000 low-cost flights every day. Although they have over 32000 employees, Indigo still faces difficulty in meeting increasing passenger demand. However, with the announcement about the merger of Vistara and Air India, India could be threatened and lose its position. Let's see what side they compete on.
This India's Biggest Airline is Facing a BIG TROUBLE! Here’s Why
The first challenge, Air India, owned by Tata, will widen its fleet up to 218 aircraft after the merger with Vistara. In recent, Singapore Airlines holds a 49% share of Vistara while Tata Sons owns 51%. After this action, the new company will become the biggest international airline in India but is behind Indigo in domestic flights. When the merger is done, Air India will operate with 218 aircraft and Vistara will dissolve. Before that, Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India said that 7000 employees of Vistara will work for Air India on June 2024, and testing and improving equipment is processing.
Also during the meeting, Air India's CEO, Mr. Campbell Wilson, announced the transfer of several pilots from Vistara to Air India. This indicates that Air India is strengthening its workforce to boost its competitive edge following the merger. The disparity in employee numbers between the two airlines is significant: Air India has approximately 177,000 employees, while Vistara has only 7,000. The employee ratio between the two airlines has shifted from 12:5 in favor of Air India to 17:7, showing that Air India is attracting more of Vistara's workforce.
