In this follow-up to our earlier episode "Justice for Moria 6", we return to the remains of the Moria refugee camp on Lesvos. This time with a critical development: three of the six Afghan teenagers accused of starting the 2020 fire have been acquitted of all charges.
In this episode we examine not just a courtroom victory, but a deeper narrative of resistance, journalism, and the painstaking pursuit of truth. Our guest is ReFOCUS Co-founder Douglas Herman, who created the citizen journalism initiative inside Moria camp.
Douglas walks us through how refugee-led storytelling, video documentation, and grassroots media efforts shaped the international understanding of what really happened on the night of the fire. He also reveals how ReFOCUS’ footage and testimonies contributed to Forensic Architecture’s pivotal investigation that challenged the official narrative and ultimately helped exonerate the three boys.
