My daughter is an MSW and she loves her career. She got a job right out of college making 62K. Three years later she is making 72K. I was fortunate enough to be able to pay for her BA and Masters. Glad I was able to do that for her.

School social worker here! Satisfied one as well. Located in NY
When I had my BSW I was making 45k and when I got my MSW in 2020 I got a school gig staring at 78k plus holidays and summer off and awesome health insurance. In addition, after getting my LMSW 2021, I started individual therapy which bumped me up to a little over 90k. Annually, I get an increase to my salary and will be making 6 figures and over after just 4 years. Also, many agencies are seeking social workers to be in an admin role due to their problem solving skills and the current mental health issues that is going on in America. - school loan was low (30k) state colleges and scholarships.

I just graduated with my MSW on 5/5/21. Here in Michigan salaries are pretty good if you have an LLMSW or LMSW. The money would increase if I worked in hospitals, schools, or therapy (private practice) so clinical is a BIG thing. Other than money, I believe social work is a great major, you help so many clients, changing the community, and fight for justice.

I totally agree Social Workers are very important and valuable in our society. This could work out for someone not very particular about the pay.

To my fellow empathetic, INFP, Piscean friends, one day they will appreciate our gifts to this cold world. Until then, protect your peace, and remember that it is not our job to save people, it is our job to teach people how to save themselves. Thank you for taking the time to create a video about little ole us (BSW, counselors, etc.). I am sure that we all appreciate that.

Social work is such a vast field. You can work in Hospital's, Government (mental health, social services. Public Health, probation, etc). In LA the county pay is great and can be very rewarding. You can also work in higher education as a counselor or Advisor and you can also work in the Private Sector (H.R, CSR, & Public Relations), and Private Practice. So much you can do with it but it's up to you how you make it benefit you. Be encouraged

Great video! I’m actually pursuing rehabilitation counseling right now and the starting salary in my state in the Midwest is definitely not the 35k. They start at $52, 000 per year here (if pursuing a state position) which goes to show how different geographic locations can be for the same career field.

Social work income with a BSW working for local government is around 55-60k (entry level). MSW entry level is about 10-15k more than a BSW, and Mid-career can get you a lot closer to 6 figures. Social work is a great profession that can get you a career in the public and private sector. Definitely worth it!

I really wish that they earned more. This is a needed position. Especially in public schools.

A bit of an odd compliment but I really love how much you anunciate
I often struggle with processing what people ate saying and have to turn on subtitles or click off of subtitles aren't enabled, but that wasn't an issue at all in this video!

I would encourage people considering the BSW or MSW to look into Public Health. I have a BSW and MSW in Michigan. My sister has a masters in Public health and works for the CDC, I believe a public health degree gives you the range to work with all of the populations that SW's work with but with much higher salary expectations. For my SW's, I've found that the health insurance companies pay very good starting anywhere from $65-75k and you're working from home.

Thank you for this video!! I graduated with a BSW last year and did one year in grad school. I decided to withdraw because I felt burned out and I’m in the transition of looking into another career. Although it was meaningful at times, I realized being overworked and underpaid doesn’t sound appealing when I want to live comfortably. Another thing to mention is how often social workers are looked down upon compared to other helping professionals.

I’ll be starting my BSW next year! The career growth for mental health and addiction is gonna sky rocket. However my goal with my BSW/MSW is to work in forensic/healthcare.

Please do better research, I live in New York, I graduated with my MSW in 2017, only 2 years of grad school, my first job as a SW started at 55k, 4 years in, I'm already at 70k as LMSW, I also do private clinical consulting, making close to 90k yearly.
