Is it sad that a DS game that came out in 2007 is still a better game as a whole compared to this? Mario Party DS was so much fun for my friends and family, since at the time we all had our own DS. Whenever there was a long car ride or trip, it would be one of the best games to play!

They could have easily add boards from other mario party games then boom the perfect mario party game.

Nintendo's unwavering refusal to return to classic boards is a level of stubborn stupidity I just don't understand.

But does Luigi still win by doing nothing?

In the end, if a Mario Party could be made where Bowser screws with time and brings all of the previous Mario Party games 'into the present day', where players can play on 3 select board maps each from MP 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, DS, 7, 8, 9, and 10, using their ORIGINAL rules (no alteration to cater to modern MP), with the TWENTY best minigames from each game being available...plus a Story Mode that involves returning everything to normal?

You're welcome.

I've gotta say though, the graphical overhaul in the mini games is great. The graphics look pretty solid for a 3DS game.

An indie developer could make a better party game at this point...To me Mario Party is dead without traditional boards.

I feel like they chose some fan favorite mini games and then just chose a bunch a random minigames whether they were bad or good. Was looking forward to this but I'm not gonna bother with it now. Especially since there's no Dungeon Duos.

Just one board?
I'm better off playing Mario Party DS...

The inclusion of "rapid-tap" minigames, rapid controller rotation games, and minigames that are pure chance is utterly baffling to me.

I just don't get how Nintendo messed up this series. This is literally the one series where the playerbase DOESN'T want change yet they continue to change every entrie. Just update Mario Party 1-7 and everyone will be happy

The biggest let down imo is that there's only 8 freaking characters. How are you gonna let Toad, Toadette, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong be playable in Star Rush and then just leave them out in this one? Ridiculous.

Here's my optimistic take on this:

Mario party has been very slowly inching closer and closer to being what the originals were. Mario party 10 made an..."attempt" with Amiibo party mode, Mario party island tour had a variety of boards that included things like items and hazards that were staples of the originals, but still retained that linear board set-up. Star rush brought back purchasing stars and non-linear boards, but was still lacking memorability since all the boards were bland and small. Now we have top 100 bringing back the minigame gameplay we remember while still trying to keep the star purchasing gameplay. The attempts all more or less failed to capture the same Mario party vibe (in my opinion), but it indicates an effort on Nintendo's and ND cube's parts to bring back the spirit of the franchise. If they continue to add more features from the older games (and put the game on a console like the switch) then eventually they'll have something fans can love. Or...at least I hope so. What do you think?

Disagree with the 3DS criticism. My fondest memories are of Mario Party come from sitting in the porch with a couple of the lads, everyone with their DS systems playing Mario Party DS. I still remember how fun that mini game was where you're being chased by the vacuum cleaner, or when you're fighting each other riding soap in the sink! Mario Party is fun just on merit alone, the console it's on isn't as important.

Nintendo: What's this? People don't like this style for Mario Party? That must mean they want more cars.

I don't understand it.

Mario Party is one of the simplest video games out there: you have a board, you have coins, you have stars, you use the coins to buy the stars, you get coins from mini games, you play the mini games with your friends, and at the end one of your former friends gets the star. Boom, Mario Party.

They're not stupid, they have to know the feedback is there. I'll bet you there's a real Mario Party game at some point in development at Nintendo for the Switch, it just hasn't been announced yet.

Hmm....wasn't expecting a Meh. I wonder how the game would have been executed if it was on the Switch.

“Playing Mario party by yourself isn’t something I’d wish on my worst enemy” oof that hit me right in the childhood ☠️☠️☠️

I always wanted a Mario Party mini game greatest hits compilation. I just wish it was on the Switch! If Mario Party on the Switch has all of these mini games, as well as 100 brand new ones, and ditches the car mechanic while going back to the old board game style... that'd be perfect
