Everyone on the Rome Reborn team is thrilled at the positive response this video of Smarthistory is getting. Thank you! We would ask those of you who want a more interactive version of the city model to be patient. From the beginning of the project in the mid 1990s, we have shared the same goal and are working hard to achieve it. Please stay tuned for exciting news about this a bit later in 2016!

I'm a history major and ever since I was a little kid I've always been fascinated with ancient Rome. Thanks for all the hard work and effort put into this! Well done!

I dream of having VR good enough to one day walk the streets of ancient Rome, bustling with AI indistinguishable from actual citizens of the time, and actually feeling like i am there.

In particular, i am in awe of the aqueducts they built

My mind is blown how the romans built such a masterpiece, pretty huge and pretty cool, i'd like to go there someday.

I still remember watching old History Channel documentaries about Rome with my father when I was a boy. The awe and fascination I felt then, I still feel now. The Romans have always been one of my great loves in life.

The fact that people thousands of years ago were this advanced and can make a person now a days feel like they are not far from modern times really fascinates me

The talk about the Pantheon and the hallmarks of Classical architecture was fantastic.

That was great . Hope you will come back and show the insulae etc. where ordinary citizens lived and deal with utilities and day-to-day life like public toilets and sewage, garbage disposal, hospitals, pubs, brothels, schools and shops and so on.

Biggest city until 19th century London... It's amazing how humanity completely regressed for a 1000 years after Rome. If we hadn't had the dark ages, we could have literally had computers in like 900 AD.

Put this on Google Earth again, please!!!

this was a fantastic experience, to see the ruins suddenly un-ruined and how each building related to the city as a whole. I would like to see many more of these reconstructions for all cities we have found in ruins... it's hauntingly beautiful

Biggest city in the western world until London during the Industrial Revolution and the biggest city the world had ever seen until it was supposedly equaled by Chang'an in China in 700.. But that assumes the 1 million population number. If Rome actually had 2 million residents, it remained the biggest city that the world had EVER seen until the 1840-1850 when London topped 2 million!!!! London passed Beijing in the late 1820's and had grown to almost 2 million by 1840. It reminded the biggest city of the world until it was passed by the New York metro area in 1925.

I love it! Thanks. As a 10 year boy who was fascinated with Roman history, I would have loved to have seen this 25 years ago!

Excellent, and extremely educational. Having been there a couple of years ago, your project brings the ancient city of Rome to life. Thank you.
