Hackman was brave in the parts he picked - esp. after winning the Best Actor Oscar in 1971 for The French Connection - a lot of actors would have just stuck with playing tough, authoritative leads after that but Hackman was a character actor at heart - and he knew a good role when he saw one - so whether playing heroic coaches (Hoosiers) or horrible villains (Unforgiven) or terrific comedy roles (The Birdcage, Get Shorty) - or like here - a flawed fascinating supporting part - he always delivered the goods. But I still feel - without a doubt - his greatest performance is in Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation.

Love The scene where he uses his intellect to find out his offer. My father is an attorney. I remember him studying for the bar exam in one state and then another when he took another job some years later.
He wanted me to be an attorney but it was too boring for me.

Imagine if this movie was mainly about the headache with dealing with rich arrogant corporations and LLCs and the legit clients. Totally different movie
