The irony is that modern emails now often filtering out scams ends up actually helping the scammers to a degree, because the sort of people who don't have or use those email features also tend to overlap heavily with the best potential targets. So the scammers' target list is being autofiltered for them to the most susceptible victims.

If you get a call from someone claiming to be your bank/power company/internet provider/etc... thank them for their call and tell them you're going to call them back from a KNOWN/PROVEN legit phone number. Scammer can spoof their phone numbers.

I recently had a call claiming to be from ADT and that my 'security system was due for a hardware update and they could have someone out to my place the next day for the maintenance.' I told them that was odd as my system was updated last year. The lady on the phone said they would 'double check' their records and get back to me. I'm still waiting for that call.

I'm genuinely frightened how deep fakes and AI voice copiers/changers are going to influence this number. I'm really glad my mom is careful and doesn't feel ashamed when asking me for tech advice. She was once targeted - pretty sure thanks to leaked or sold database - by spearphishing mail, trying to frighten her into paying for "unlawfully using" a mobile game she supposedly "illegally downloaded". It did look quite convincing to the naked eye.
I bloody hate scammers.

Alot of victims are old lonely alot of times widowed folks happy to have someone to talk to... Happy to send money they have. Alot of them even know there being scammed or taken advantage of but. Once again... Dont care. Worth it to have someone to talk to regularly. Really sad
