If the animation was designed to be in a low frame rate, the frame rate should stay low.

Had a bunch of these "60 fps upgrade" videos go around my Twitter feed and I could tell from just a few seconds that it looked interpolated and I gagged. Seriously, how people think it looks good is beyond me. I'm no animator, but I'm pretty sure there is a better way to convey smoothness than adding frames that didn't need to be there in the first place.

I still remember to this day watching a video about this (the one made by noodle) and ever since then I could never watch a 60fps anime opening, they also kinda hurt my eyes anyway

I hate it when I sometimes look up a scene from an anime I like and all of the most popular search results are all of those hideous AI 60fps videos, they look awful every time I don't know how people prefer them

Mark accidentally said "Anime 40k"

I would watch a 40K anime tbh.

10 years later: “64K 144fps Ultra Super HD” is awful

what's worse is that if you go to the comments of those videos a lot of the comments are like "ohh my god thank you for doing this it looks so smooth now". and i am like it is not a video game where more fromes is better, this is animation which is normal in animated in 12 frames or 24 frames per second. yes aometimes they animated more to make it looks smooth, but it is so rare, heck the one shot i can remember is the ed of Kaguya Season one where Chika do a 360 her skirt in the animatic count goes up to about 90 frames in that small snippet of animation

I'm currently learning how to draw to then learn how to animate just to prove a point on someone for telling me "you're not even an animator to say if it's bad or not, what do you know about frames"
You don't need to know how to cook to know if something tastes good or not based

Those are the typical videos to get most views, cause people nowadays think it is massively goated for anime to be encoded from 23.976fps to 60fps and it's complete blasphemy. There is no possible way for this to ever work. Aside from that, 60fps will only look good is when you insert the original 23fps source, like you're meant to, into your editing program and AFTERWARDS have a nice upscale of it, but that is so pointless you may as well not even have it unless you are actually going to edit, for example an AMV? A very long paragraph for no reason, you are welcome hahahah

I don't get the obsession with 60fps media. From films, tv shoes, animation and video games, people want everything to be 60fps and I do not get it.

When I got my first computer powerful enough to do it I was so excited to try it. Then when I quickly upgraded I decided I didn’t ever need it again.

I looked at a few of them, ended up not liking them, and had to actively avoid them for a month before the algorithm understood this isn't for me.
It's so tedious.

Using this works for video games but definitely not custom animation.

Me: *Trying to find a specific anime scene on youtube*
Youtube: "60 FPS 4K HD"
Me: *Searches [insert anime scene] without any changes*
Youtube: "120 FPS 16K HD WITH A WHOLE 'NOTHER SONG BLASTING IN THE BACKGROUND AND RUSSIAN SUBTITLES"

Noodle's video on the subject is one of the best YouTube videos I've seen period. If you're more interested in why frame interpolation sucks, I'd recommend it.

I hate it when I’m trying to find a specific scene and the upload I find is interpolated but never advertised as such. 🤢

Interpolation only really works for animation that's already in a really high FPS, since mistakes can be glossed over easily.

The only instance I've ever seen of 60fps anime not looking hideous was for the fight between Obito and Kakashi. I think it was because the fight was so fast that the extra frames improved the readability of the action.
