Lenovo Chromebook Duet: Hands-On and First Impressions

Lenovo brought an interesting device to CES 2020 in the form of a new 10.1-inch Chrome OS tablet. If I'm honest, my first inclination was to expect a sub-par, plastic, flimsy tablet with a mediocre screen and questionable performance. After all, Chromebook tablets have been pretty bad up to this point, choosing to cut nearly every corner with bad build quality and poor performance or going in the other direction and trying to be everything to everyone in the devices like the Pixel Slate.

Lenovo has delivered a great tablet, and I really love this little guy. At 10.1-inches, with a 1920x1200 resolution (16:10) and 400 nits of brightness, this tablet has the display portion nailed. Add to that a decently-fast MediaTek Helio P60T ARM processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage and you have a tablet that can shine both as a consumption and production device. The reasonable bezels, striking 2-tone aesthetic, thin form factor and very light overall weight (0.99 pounds) make a package that feels as good in the hand as any tablet I've ever held. I just kept picking it up and trying new things because it simply felt great to hold.

This should have been the chromebook from the beginning. For the 1st time in my life I am really excited for a chromebook.

Been using my Duet for almost two years now. Got the 64GB version. It's been a great experience. Runs all the android verions of the apps I was using on my company Ipad (I had to turn it in when I retired) with no problems. Using G-drive for extra storage. The keyboard and back are still working like the day I bought the device. I'm thoroughly satisfied with this beauty.

I'm using a Toshiba Chromebook 2 and a Samsung S2 tablet, but both are 2.5+ yrs old and my Toshiba has one hinge that's coming undone and battery life has diminished on both. I think this is the replacement I need for both! It'll be a decent Chromebook replacement and still have the versatility of a tablet for traveling, watching videos and reading! Love it.
And thanks for this thorough review!

I still love tablets, lol. Am I the only one? I'm really looking forward to this one.

It looks great! I'm now probably going to pick one up at release because of this video!

Thanks!

I am switching my echo system from Apple to Google. Mostly because I am blown away by my pixel phone, and Stadia. Google seems to be moving into another level vs its competition.

I was looking for a tablet chromebook, other than the slate, and once I saw this I knew I had to pick one up when it gets released and for the $280 price tag, it is hard to not pick up this beautiful machine. So I can not wait for the launch of this thing! Can not wait to get my hands on this tablet!

Pro tip: if you're thinking of getting one, use the website from Lenovo and talk to a sales rep. Create an account beforehand. You can get a discount and free shipping. I have a huge 4K Chromebook from them and I love it. But is heavy and huge.

I have watched a lot of your videos and you always show us how you use a Chromebook. For typing a document editing. Most of the convertibles and tablets are pretty awesome and most people are using them for school and play. Media consumption and Android games. You do an excellent job of explaining the internals and look and feel of devices but we really never see you use many touch screen apps.

That I might have to look into more. I might want to get another chromebook.

I'm getting this, most definitely! Your review sold me on this one. The Pixel Slate is just not comfortable to hold on tablet mode for me

I have an iPad and love it, damn, almost everything I own comes from Apple, but I get very excited with every ChromeOS Tablet, I like competition, good competition, and this is really worth checking out, I hope I can get my hand on one of these, it looks very promising

I bought this a year later and I have no regrets. It pairs well with my Pixel and there's nothing like a Chromebook/tablet hybrid for me as a student. For anyone looking in to this, it's on sale at office max until the end of November.
