Elite Dangerous gamma 1.05: Ticket: Cannot change language to English after launcher update

I am using Windows 7 64bit with German/Austrian language and localization.
I was playing Elite: Dangerous playing the original English language settings.

With the latest update of the launcher I have again the German text (I did not change the settings back to German on my own). Note that in the settings English is already set as preset language option, even though I have German text.
When I want to explicitly set to English and click apply, there is only a black screen and the background music, but nothing happens. I only can force close the game with task manager.

I tried it a second time and waited some more minutes. After restart, again German text and the black screen after applying change to English language (again preset to English already).

I started a third time. This time I tried to play the game with open play. This worked without problems. Then I exited to the main menu and tried to explicitly set to German (English is preset, even though I have German text) with the same result: black screen.

resolution: none, currently it seems that I can only play in German.

No menue item in the final game version 1.03
BUT: edit (with admin rights)

replace:
<setting name="LanguageOverride" serializeAs="String">
      <value />
</setting>
with:
<setting name="LanguageOverride" serializeAs="String">
      <value>en</value>
</setting>
(de, en and fr should work - not tested!)
