What's the first word that comes to your mind when you think of vultures?

For those who say that it's too bad George isn't in the wild, he's already lived TWO full length wild lives and is halfway through his third. Does he seem unhappy about his fate ?

Hopefully George ends up being the one to break that 40 year limit. He seems very lively and happy.

The vulture is being well taken care of, by the staff. Vultures are a blessing for the environment. Absolutely amazing birds.

I love how he hops around and he looks quite majestic when he's basking in the sun.❤

I live in Toms River NJ, and my section has tons of deer. As a result of this, unfortunately, there are a lot of deer carcasses on the roadways due to being a high-traffic area. It would be gross around here if it were not for the turkey vultures cleaning up these carcasses. These vultures are vital to our ecosystem for this very reason. They are amazing animals who get a bad rap. Oh, and btw, they are not ugly but actually gorgeous up close. Quite large too!

I saw an albino vulture as a child at a bird sanctuary and he was such a gentle soul. From then on, I appreciated our natural clean up crews. Good boy, George!

The general media has done vultures such a dis-service pinning them as evil omens. They are wonderful and placid animals with so much personality. Turkey vultures are my absolute favorite, and they're keystones species to top it all off. Truly an underrated animal.

A few years back I had a turkey vulture visit me everyday for 2 weeks. He would be on the railing of my deck when I got up and he'd be there when I got home from work everyday. He didn't appear to be injured and he also wasn't scared of me. I could get within a couple ft to take pictures. And then one day he was gone and I never saw him again. I feel honored that he chose to visit me everyday. ❤

Love George. I have raised birds from chicks, wild and domestic, and I can tell you they pick up human culture. A chicken named EggNog regularly attended tablecloth restaurants. She had a stroller with a booster seat, and cleaning items beneath. Her table manners were impeccable. She was quite accustomed to dining with family. We were invited back to them; even called out on the street' as she became a mini-celebrity. Other diners delighted in bringing small portions of their remaining leftovers to watch her delicately eat. She would have something to say about it if she didn't like it, or really loved it. She had opinions of music as well. Yes, OPINIONS. She learned a few things from the dogs; and brought them under her spell. She was definitely in CHARGE but she made sure they got treats, so they idolized her. She scolded them for barking, making a mess, or causing a fuss. She had a car seat and loved getting eyefuls of all the scenery, though I did get some strange looks at stoplights when she peered out to check other cars/people. If George was raised by humans, he has no other cultural influence. Sweet bird. Hope he gets lots of neck scritches....or whatever else he likes people to do for him. Thank you for continuing to give him the love and attention he expects

I live in Texas and one day I commented to my mother how beautiful vultures were. She laughed out loud, saying they were the ugliest birds and were dirty. I told her, "they might not have the plumage of a parrot but they're so graceful and beautiful when they fly". This is still my position on the issue, 45 years later.

I used to volunteer for the Carolina Raptor Center in North Carolina. My favorites were the black and turkey vultures. I took care of the turkey vulture (Oshem, who was used for education, accident unable to fly). He was so intelligent, and VERY curious. They never give up. They are beautiful birds, very sociable and I loved them. The underside of their wings are silver!
