I love Ishihara's deterioration in the anime. The writing is amazing.

I wouldn’t have the resistance Mario had when he let Ishihara live, I would’ve made Ishihara feel every inch of pain I felt if I was In Mario’s place.

But alas, 1950s Japan is no lawless country, so Mario saved himself from life in prison and scarring his soul making Sakaragi feel horrible for Mario’s decision.
