I didn't know Prof. Bell was from Pittsburgh. I went to Carnegie Mellon for grad school and had a similar conversation about job prospects after graduating 50 years after Prof. Bell's experience. Seems like little has changed....

I do not have a good opinion of Derek bell after hearing about his interview on Stephen Colbert. How can someone be so pessimistic when they’ve seen the ark of history surrounding the black community. It has consistently got better every single decade. But based on what I heard I kind of understand why one person ridiculously made a comment to me once. The comment was either that the USA has made almost no progress or very little progress in race relations, a.k.a. how Black people are treated, since the 1960s.
