calculating volume of distribution

Показать описание
Calculating volume of distribution (Vd) requires just two values. One is the half-life of the molecule. The other is total clearance. Both of these values can be determined from a set of Cp-time data points for an IV bolus. The formula for Vd is t1/2 times CLT over 0.693. The units on Vd are normally either liters or liters per kg of patient pass. Unit conversions for both half-life and CLT are normally required to make units match and cancel appropriately. Volume of distribution is a key pharmacokinetic parameter. It's proper name is *apparent* volume of distribution. Vd describes a volume of plasma and its equivalents into which a molecule distributes in the body. The term "equivalents" acknowledges that the drug is found in both plasma and tissues.
