Just A Girl Prepping Her Race Car.

Hey ECREW! Happy National Women's Day :) lol. But for real, I'm no different than any guy. I think we can all agree that cars come down to the passion we all equally share for them. So, I'm just me, prepping my car.

I tried removing the sound deadening with dry ice and alcohol, just dry ice, and no dry ice. Now I have the personal experience of all three methods and can properly create an opinion of my own.

The S14 also should be done from paint in the next week. Super excited!!

As always, thank you for watching! Please SHARE, like, and subscribe!

In all honesty, this girl probably works damn hard. Her body is in great shape, she's probably doing side acting-projects (professional of which she's not sharing) and maybe more....AND building project cars.

She's a hard worker...

The point of the dry ice is to freeze the sound deadening to below the point at which it gets brittle. When it's brittle, big chunks should, in theory, bust off with hammer blows.
I'd imagine that the alcohol just makes for better heat conduction between the dry ice and sound deadening.

I use heat gun, plastic scraper. and acetone to remove residue, i didn’t even need to repaint the floor as the paints undamaged.

How can someone dislike something about this beautiful girl working on her own racecar, smiling and enjoying an ice cold freaking beer...? I'm sold. xD

I work in an automotive assembly plant and I actually install that dash pad on the firewall. It is solely for sound deadening. The heat insulation is on the other side of the firewall in the engine bay.

Wow! This popped up on my suggested video. It's amazing how far you’ve come and the growth of self and the channel.

When I have done it I used a scraper for the large flat sections, then used a torch and scraper to clean up the rest. And yes, yank the dash and get that OEM blanket out and put the gold back in its place.

I stripped sound deadening from a ford zx2 and a porsche 944. weighed about 45# from each car. I did it with a heat gun and 1" steel scraper blade.

It all add's up in the end. People will even cut the steel floor out and replace with aluminum for even more weight savings. I've always used a heat gun and a scraper to take out the sound deadening. Race car life!

Rubber mat fire hazard. I tried it with and without. With is easier - let the dry ice sit on the asphalt to embrittle it then hit it with a hammer to separate it from the chasis. Use a plastic chisel (orange colour used to remove wheel weights) to knock any remaining pieces loose. The key is to let the dry ice do the work for you.

The alcohol is to get the sticky backing loose the dry ice to super chill and stiffen it. So soak the sound deadening with alcohol after that soaks in good then spread the ice all over

Network A posted an episode of Drift Garage season 1, where Tuerk and Forsberg covered the whole floor with dry ice. They came back a little while later and just started hammering the sound deadening, no chisel. Looked like it came off pretty easily.

+1 for heat gun & plastic scraper method... I used an old credit card :). I've done a few small bits like this on my Golf Mk2 and you wouldn't even know it had been there, some bits came off all in 1 or 2 pieces. Have to be gentle with it, pull just hard enough to lift it, but not hard enough to tear it.

Good luck with the car, hope it'll turn out the way you want it! Would have love to give you a hand with the work, just live too far away. Will be watching for what's to come!

If you're going to take the panels and seats out anyways get someone to dry ice blast it. It would not hurt the dash etc as long as you do not blast it directly. Its kinda like sandblasting but with dry ice, a one-inch air nozzle and A LOT of air. I worked for an automotive engineering company and we would even remove the rubberizing/undercoatings from under the car when we were doing an extreme mod. You would be surprised if you remove all that gunk how much weight comes off the car. Plus with a good ice blaster there is minimal prep to paint.

Remove the rubber mats and the stuff under them so you can replace it with Dinamat. That will give you sound damping and a heat shield all in one. Also with the glue of the old sound damping materal, use a wire wheel on a drill with some MEK. I use that for removing glue, greese, and even road tar.
