How to Propagate Rex Begonia from Leaf Cutting

A step by step guide on how to propagate Rex Begonia from a Leaf Cutting.

1) Select a healthy Medium - Large sized leaf and remove it from your plant.

2) Cut off half of the stem at an angle, the moist side of the angle should face the front of the leaf so that new plants will emerge from that spot.

3) Trim off the outer edge of your leaf to encourage root growth.

4) Poke a hole and plant the stem halfway into the soil, gently pack the dirt in place to support the leaf.

5) Water your leaf sparingly, it needs to remain moist NOT soaked through. There aren't any roots to absorb moisture and it will rot if over drenched.

6) Place in a window that receives indirect sunlight, If it is winter your cutting will still grow but it will take much longer than in spring or summer. You may also use a grow light.

7) When new plants have formed and are 1/2 and inch long or more you can divide them from the mother leaf. (waiting longer results in stronger plants)

8) Replant your new baby Rex Begonias loosely in decent sized pots and water gently. Make sure to put them in a place where they can receive bright indirect sunlight!

This video is doing very well! I'm glad you made a video about this, because I didn't even know how to do it. Now we can keep this begonia going forever!

I have this exact begonia! I think it might be called Begonia Immense or something along those lines. Since it's so fleshy, I found it's prone to rotting if you over water. Mine is currently dying off as a result so I'm hoping to save it by propagating with a stem cutting like you've demonstrated! Here's hoping I can save my begonia!

I'm truly amazed by this method. Did you stumble upon it by chance? So far I've only been able to propagate by leaf cuttings. Thanks so much coz I'm raring to try your method now! :)

my roommate crashed his drone into my begonia, it was the worst day ever. An entire branch fell of, as it had only two, that was quite devastating. Ive managed to turn that tragedy into over a dozen new plants. Thanks for the knowledge!

Really enjoyed watching a 'natural' video that had plenty of information needed & for once I DIDN'T have to listen to shit music or screaming kids in the back ground.. I subbed :)
