Campervan review: Ford Nugget

Показать описание
The Ford Nugget offers something slightly different to a lot of its rivals in the campervan market including two double beds, five travel seats, a front-hinged elevating roof and a rear kitchen. It all comes on the Ford Transit Custom and is built by Westfalia for Ford with prices starting at around £60,000. Nick Harding takes a closer look and gives his expert opinion.

Thanks so much for doing this great video. Great to see the Ford Nugget getting some more reviews. We’ve enjoyed quite a few trips away now, some to caravan and motorhome club sites, as a family of 4. As Ford Nugget owners I feel there’s a few things to clarify.
1. Reversing camera not standard (incorrectly stated that it was standard in video) when we bought ours, although we got one retrofitted as part of our deal. Its very easy to drive without one though as the side mirrors are so good.
2. You say the bed is ‘convoluted and not flat’- not sure if the bottom bit was not secured correctly with the leg underneath in the video. I can confirm that the bed does go flat and we’ve slept on it numerours times with no issues. We don’t use a topper, just a quilted mattress cover. Also you say there’s no space- but there’s loads of space underneath.
3. Storage- you say the storage is lacking but missed out a lot of storage - under the bench seat, the shelves and rail in the wardrobe, the side cuboard, the space above the cab when roof raised, for example.Yes its compact but its about making the storage work- we have no issues and travel regularly as a family of 4.
4. The Nugget has so many things as standard that were not mentioned. Some examples include the overhead awning, the awning rail the other side for drive away awning, the ( very comfortable) mattress, the little touches like the umbrella, lockable glove box.
5. No mention at all of the toilet in the L1 version that you show ( unless I missed it). Handy storage cupboard in built that it fits into.
6. Other Nugget options out there incuding the L2 which has in built toilet.

Really glad you did this video
And thanks again. Hopefully the points above clarify for any prospective buyers. We document a wide range of ford nugget information on our channel- the main playslist being ‘exploring the nugget’ and ‘our top tips’. You can also see theoughout the videos our adventures and use of the van. Hope this helps.

Great that seats five, so more usable as a daily second car with family. But that advantage list with the height.

Sizes of the beds would have been useful too

Huge storage under bench seat! Thought you would have found that 😮 more research needed to give a complete review.

Good review thank you Nick,
The plus points are the twin sliding doors, the five seats, and the rear kitchen,
But I wouldn't swap my VW California Coast any day because of the lack of storage and the 2.07m height.
There is no room for any bedding, downstairs mattress topper, chocks, electric cable etc, everything that the California swallows so well at the back.
Oh, and no side awning either, although doubtless this could be retrofitted.
So will stick with VW for the future, but thanks for the video.

Not a great layout, the kitchen at the back is very impractical
