A review filmed on my iPhone 6S Plus of the Ihagee Exa & Exakta 35mm film cameras.

*lessons learned: cough up a lung before shooting, frame properly, stop saying UM!

Super cool history with this one. Came across one in my grandfathers things after he passed. Can’t wait to clean it and test it out!

Good job on the review! We need more people reviewing old film cameras other than the classic Nikon, Canon and Leica's. Can't wait for the next review!

The film cutting knife was intended to be used with Ihagee's own double cassette system. Kodak designed their 135 format cassette to fit both Leica and Contax rangefinders, and most later systems were developed to take it, but many manufacturers persisted with the double cassette for decades.

Great Video! I was really hoping you'd show how to clean the prism in the viewfinder. We resell old cameras & info on these cameras is hard to find!

Great review. I knew that camera, I've discovered it where I live here in Germany. I like the concept of that viewfinder. I like to shoot with old cameras as well, slowing donw a bit and taking some more time is good :-)

The most beautiful cameras ever made. I liked your video. Don't let that one idiot in the comments bother you.

Nice review. Well done. The company Ihagee was not the only one with the first slr camera. The Russians by the company GMOZ has already in 1934 there slr camera called "sport". Only the PR and production of this camera didn't works very well. So, that's why they called Ihagee the first one, because there productions and marketing was better. In my opinion the Ihagee was much better in construction etc. Btw I have the Ihagee exakta VX. A very nice well made machine for that periode of time. Who can imagination in that time, that the shutter speed B/T to 12 seconds mechanical and delays. It's a littlebit a forgotten camera, but the best at that time. The founder of the company was the Dutchman Steenbergen.

thank yu so much, great vid! About the Exakta: I have it, yet you mentioned the mechanism on the top right is a timer? Mine seems to be stuck? Did you open this camera (there are about 6 to 8 screws as far as I can see) and is the camera easily accessible/repairable?

If you grind down the little protruding knob on the lens release lever to 1mm then it does not get in the way of mounting RE Auto Topcor lenses.

Neat cameras
They remind me of tiny version of the Pentax 67
there is something magical about a waist level viewfinder

Does the viewfinder fit on the exa and the exakta? :)

SLR camers were already produced before 1920.

Would the Exa or Exakta allow me to shoot multiple exposure before advancing the film to the next frame?

The way you say Ihagee is Ee-ha-gay. Exakta was the world's first 35mm SLR. The Carl Zeiss Jena lenses are the best.
